Friday night was hectic from a wedding rehearsal, and it was around 7:00 pm when I got home. I let Ozzy out of his kennel and we were hanging out, waiting for Roger to get home.
He got home around 7:30 and went to change clothes. I was puttering around in the kitchen, when my "silent alarm" in my head went off. I went to the door separating the laundry room from the garage and it was standing wide open. The garage door was also open; sometimes it goes down then, for some reason, goes back open again.
I screamed, "Oh my God!" and ran outside, screaming Ozzy's name. He was almost to the very busy street running by our house, but he turned around and headed back towards the house. I quickly checked up and down our street and saw no oncoming cars. Something got Ozzy's attention and he stopped on the street to smell something. I knew if I ran to him, he might think I was playing and would take off again, so I walked as slowly as I dared, talking to him in what I hoped was my natural voice.
I got to him and he started to run off, but I told him, "No!" and he rolled over on his back. I picked him up and starting feeling his legs, stomach, everywhere looking for any injuries. He was fine. I was a mess.
From now on, Roger and I will check the doors and make doubly sure the laundry room door is closed. It used to swing shut on it's own, but apparently something is broken and we are not used to having to physically shut it ourselves.
I just don't know what I would have done if something had happened to Ozzy. I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think about it.
Oh no - that is the scariest......It has happened to all of us - and it takes days for our hearts to get out of our throats. SO glad Ozzy listened to you and is ok. Hope your heartbeating has slowed down. Bet Ozzy got lots of lovies that night !!! Seriously - sure glad everything worked out ok.
I'm glad nothing happened to Ozzy. Its things like this that are a lesson to us, to be more vigilant and careful about doors and stuff. I have nightmares, too, all the time that my dogs are in traffic and I am trying to gather them up. Its horrible. Just look at your incident as a lesson God was teaching you, I'm sure you will never make that mistake again in the future, and its really great that nothing happened to Ozzy during the "learning process." Glad he is okay. Now, try to calm down!
