Jessica took Hemi to the vet last week for his checkup and shots. The vet said he is a very healthy little boy...all 3 lbs 8 oz of him! He got his little nails trimmed and Jess said everyone in the office just loved him! I don't doubt that for a minute!
He is just the cutest little fella...real fiesty and in the 'bitey-bitey' stage. Those little needle teeth hurt! He got my 4yr old granddaughter Faith, (his human sister!) on the arm with those sharp teeth yesterday and she was crying. I took her into the bathroom, washed it off and put some neosporin on it and then some Barbie bandaids...she was better in no time!
Oh there is a new baby doxie in the family? That is wonderful Kathy!! I'll bet he is a doll!!! Is he Jessica's then?
Those baby puppy teeth can hurt. But nothing Gramma and a Barbie Bandaid can't fix. :)
I bet he is just adorable - wow 3 1/2 lbs!!!! Can't wait to hear more about him and see some pictures !!! Glad he checked out fine!
Hey,DD!! Yes, Hemi is Jessica's! The children adore him and he is just the funniest little guy...reminds me a lot of Piddleman! He has a wonderful home and I know he will thrive and live a good long life there. Jess gated off the stairs and covered the railing around the upstairs landing so Hemi won't fall through. I gave her one of my doxie books that had lots of good info in it about those cute little guys!
Steve and I are getting a new puppy in August! After Finn died in March the gal who owns the Golden Retriever forum I'm on emailed me and said that when her Gretchen had puppies this summer she wanted to give me one!! Well, Gretchen is due any day now! So...we will be getting a female this time and her name will be Katie! When I register her w/ the AKC her registered name will be 'Goldenoaks Finn's Gift'!! I'll be flying to Iowa on Aug.11 to pick Katie up and will bring her onboard with me...am waiting to make her reservation until after she is born! I fly home with her on Aug.14.
We are thinking that after Katie is about two yrs we just might get another doxie to add to our bunch! Time will tell!!

Geez, that brings tears to my eyes. Wow. What a wonderful and thoughtful gift. Cool to know there are people like that in the world. Thanks for sharing that story.

Mary Anne...I've said the same thing to a number of people! This group of folks truly are 'golden'. We have been together as a group through at least five forums together over the past two years...the forums always seemed to break up b/c someone (not in this group I'm in) would start a brewhaha...but every time this core group of people rose to the top and moved on together. Finally last year one gal said that she was just going to start a forum for us so we didn't have to deal with the junk. It's been great! A lot like this group...everyone gets along and we care about each other and our dogs. Another blessing that came from my boy, Finn!
I guess I can even one up my story by adding that when my friends found out that I had lost my job and might not be able to come up w/ airfare they all chipped in and came up w/ all but $150 of it...which I could easily cover! Golden, I tell ya!
OH Kathy when did you lose Finn? I am so sorry. :( Your golden friends are wonderful, a new puppy!! It must be bittersweet...but what a blessing. God must have sent Hemi in the meantime to get you thru til August, you have a doxie in your life thru Jessica. I'm very sorry to hear about Finn...

DD...Finn got real sick on March 6...when I got home from work he had thrown up all over the kitchen. He just looked awful. We nursed him through the night (well, I did) and in the morning of March 7 we took him to the vet. They kept him two days treating him for what they felt was pancreatitis. On the 9th we had to take him up to Poulsbo to the ER vet. After an ultrasound the vet called and said his pancreas was 'necronizing'...dying. She said it was the entire pancreas and she felt that it was a birth defect that just took 4.5 yrs to manifest itself. So, on March 10 Steve and I went up to the ER vet and spent about a half hour alone with our boy and then I held him as close as I could when the vet gave him the shot that sent him to the bridge. The great pain is gone but I still grieve and miss him SO much. He was such a sweet boy...he brought a lot of love and fun to our home and our lives.
So sorry to hear about Finn. I'm glad you were able to be there for him in the end.
OH Kathy I am sooo so sorry. :( You didn't have much time with your beautiful golden boy! That is heartbreaking. I am glad you are going to open yourself to a new baby though. People can sure be generous at times like that and a new puppy plus most of the airfare is just awesome. Finn was so blessed to have you for the short time he did, he I'm sure had a better life in those short years than many dogs do in a lifetime.

Finn died 12 days short of being with us for two years. He would've been 5 on April 18. In such a short time the impact he had on my life was huge. We were all very blessed to have had the chance to be together! We loved him so much...and miss him every day.
I was SO jazzed when Jessica got Hemi...a puppy to love while I wait for my gold ball of fluff! lol Oh, speaking of which...sorry, this is so way off topic...Gretchen, the Golden mama dog just got an xray done today and it looks like around 12 puppies! So...Goldenoaks Finn's Gift...aka Katie has to be one of them!!
This is going to be so exciting. I still remember when our friends got their Golden Retriever pup. Copper is 5 now and he is HUGE. He was such a fun puppy and even now still seems to think he is a pup sometimes! I can't wait to hear about all your adventures with Katie and in the meantime the ones with Hemi. I can just imagine the two of them together.
When we first got Schatzi, we would take her to visit Copper. She would run and let him chase her, then she would go under the sofa. Copper would keep running, of course, and try his best to figure out a way to fit under the sofa, too! He was a about 2 1/2 then!
When we first had our long hair doxie, Piddleman, we had a six yr old Golden named Buck. Buck was SO patient and gentle with that little pipsqueak! He would lay in the yard and let Pman climb all over him like he was a jungle gym! One time Pman was pulling on Buck's tail and he chomped kind of hard. Buck jumped up, Pman got a death grip on his tail and I looked out in the yard to see Buck spinning in circles trying to get Pman OFF...there at the end of Buck's tail was this little bitty puppy hanging on for dear life going around and around! It was THE funniest thing I have ever seen in my life! When Jess saw what was going on she said, "Oh, boy! Puppy rides!!!" Buck finally gave up and just laid down...think he was dizzy! lol
I can't wait to have Hemi meet Katie!! What fun!
The really funny part will be Hemi realizing that Katie is the same dog even though she keeps getting much bigger each time they see each other. That would be so confusing to a small dog, I'm sure!
