Title: Red is DOD today 25/5, all the way from the sunny Mediterranean coast of Spain
Post by: Spanish Teckels on May 25, 2006, 04:50:48 AM
Full Name: Red, Donut de Golage is my pedigree name, but I´m Red Spencer de Rosselló as I share my surnames with Mum and Dad.
Everyone Calls Me: Red, guapo, sweetie-pie (how humiliating….) butch.
Birthday: 21st October 2002
Gotcha Day:  1st March 2003
I live with: Andrea (a Scot) & Miguel (Mallorquín) and my miniature sister, Islay â€" she´s a very slinky mahogany longhair..

Hometown: I was born in Chinchón, Madrid and now live in  Altea, Provincia de Alicante, Spain.  That´s right on the seafront overlooking the sunny Mediterranean and great for chasing seagulls along the beach too.  We speak English and Spanish!
Weight: just less than 5.4kg (about 11 lbs)
Neck size:  32cm ( 12 inches)    remember I am a dwarf = Zwergrauhhaarteckel
Height ground to chestbone: 9cm (3.5 inches)
Length from base of neck to tail:38cm  (15 inches)
Height from ground top of head:35cm   (14 inches)
Height from ground to belly:17cm     (6.5 inches)
Hair Color: Roan (Autumn leaf!)
Eye Color: Dark Whisky brown
Coat type: Pin-wire.  Mum´s almost finished hand-stripping me.  For all you lucky smoothies and longs out there: this means she´s ripped out  each and every old hair on my body  by hand, now that´s torture for you! :ambulance:

Favorite People: Mum & Dad
Favorite Toy: Islay and Dad´s socks!
Best treat: Salmon biscuits, piggy ears.
Worst torture: Nails and stripping!
Where I sleep at night: In Chilly-Dog bed or on Mum, Dad, Grampy, Nana…or if all else fails, on the terrace in the sun!
Favorite pastime: pulling Islay´s ears and tail making her chase me. Running up and down the pinewoods and mountainside.
I am a hunter, yes: Definitely!  Love chasing horses, wild boar, bulls and Alsatians!
What I do when Hoomans are away: sleep with one eye open in our look-out crate by the front door.
Story about me that my Hoomans would like to share:   Mum and Dad say I´m the most generous big brother around.  I shared my bowl with Islay from the very first day she came home with us and even chew the same bone with her at the same time!  She´s only a tiddler and I protect her everywhere we go and let her snuggle with me and nibble my beard whenever she wants.  Mum and Dad collected me from Chinchon in Madrid when I was four months old and I wasn´t house trained but have never, ever piddled or anything in the house and have never ever chewed anything except my toys either AND I´ve taught Islay to be the same way.  They say I´d be an angel if it wasn´t for the embarrassing  howls of delight every time we set foot outside!  Takes me 3 minutes to settle down and walk quietly â€" even if it´s midnight…..lucky our neighbours love me anyway.

I really love bearded ladies and we don´t have many round here, I´m getting fan mail from a black and tan wiry dwarf lady in Switzerland right now who met me at the Teckel Club annual show last year and  Mum says if I´m a gentleman we might get together  :love3:

Here are some piccies of me as a pupster and then in the next posting some here in the mountains where we walk every day - Mum & Dad do 10km but we run everywhere and do more interesting things than them!

Wow, you are a handsome guy and will be a tough act to follow as DOD.   Just a question, do the Alsatians you chase have 2 legs or 4 legs (I have relatives in Alsace...)

Ah, Red, you are such a handsome boy!  That is so sweet hearing about you training your sister!  Congratulations on being Dog of the Day, and I love your picture fix - it should hold me for a few hours.  (By the way, Red's little moustache on the sides of his upper lip is very like what I see on Brekke - those wiry hairs sticking out on the sides.  What do you think - is she a throwback to some wire in her ancestry?  I never saw any wire on her 5 generation pedigree...!)

Awww, thanks, Auntie Barb.
No, that´s not my Mum - she took the piccie amd shés not photogenic, or so she says.....my Dad is on the left wearing orange (and white when she sneaked the photo of us both oin bed..) and the handsome gentleman in the middle was Ted Llewellyn and his wife Sonia.  Ted was neighbour & bestest friend to my Mum and her dachsies Rex and Toby when she was little, Rex died at 19 and Toby at 17.  Ted and Sonia came to stay with us in Spain last Summer and we took the piccie - he sure knew how to cuddle!

Mum & Dad were at home in Scotland for December/January and Ted died then, so this is a very special photo for us.  So, no, there not my Mum & Dad, but they are as good as it gets and Sonia is coming to stay with us soon and we´re going to spoil her lots and lots again......

Love to you, Auntie Barb, cuddles  from Red & Islay.

Red you are one handsome fellow!  I can't believe no accidents and no chewing!  Think you'd want to come to Oklahoma and teach Berman and Lucy a thing or two?  Hope you have a very happy DOD!

hi Jenny, yes it´s true - Mum said she´d be sad if I piddled or pooped and I love her lots so I hung on and did it outside instead and got loads of hugs for doing it that way.

i´d love to come to Oklahoma - but I can´t dance very well and I don´t sing either - don´t you have to be able to do all those things from the "Oklahoma" musical to come over there?

P.S.:  Bet Lucy and Berman hold it too - we just kid you on sometimes.

Good one, Mike!

I love chasing and scaring the 4 long-legged type - haven´t actually had the chance to scare any 2 legged ones yet.  We have driven through Alsace on our way to Scotland, but Dad keeps me harnessed in the back of the car (spoilsport...) till we get to a hotel and get to try the food & wine.

We snitched a shortbread that a guest dropped yesterday and Mum said we shouldn´t get used to it - but we reckon Cliffie probably gets shortbread every day, are we right?  Can he give us his secret recipe?

Love from two starving, skinny half-Scot teckels - even our kilts slip off our starving skinny waists now....

Hi there down under!
Yes, my Mum is originally from Galloway (Bladnoch, near Wigtown, has a wonderful single malt distillery).  Dad is Mallorquin from Palma, Mallorca.  They met working in Madrid.
Where is your Nan from?  Must be a very long trip for her to see all down there.  Maybe she can tell you all about Galloway Belties (bit big to bring back for you though).  First time Mum told Dad about them, he though she´d had too many drams of the pure stuff and thought it was a designer cow joke....
Love to you all,

Red & Islay (who is, of course, named after the Isle of Islay, where Dad´s favourite single malts come from)

Clifford here:  Dad only makes shortbread for special events, so I don't get it very often.  He says it's pretty simple (like the name implies).  It may not be Walkers, but we like it.  Just get your food bowl out and mix 4 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar and 1 pound of butter and then spread and  bake on a lined pan at 350F until golden brown.  Dad does this silly thing of using a fork to put a plaid design on it when it comes out of the oven.

Oh, if you decide to go after the 2-legged Alsatians, be really nice if they are name Rolf or Christiane.  They like me a lot and you might get some Tarte Flambe...

Auch, weell:  thanks Cliffie, your Dad´s recipe is virtually exactly the same as Mum´s, you must be very close in origin to us!  Bet it´s really good.  It was the first time we got to taste it and we were hoping you´d give us an excuse (read justification) to get another try....

Dad says Mum drives too fast through Alsace to ask their names, but if we knew where they were, we could stop specially and take some Spanish ham and olive oil and almond turrón and things, if they like that sort of thing - then I could sneak up on the ankles.........and Islay could maybe snitch some of that lovely Alsacian dry white wine or dry beer and some sausages and cheeses and waffly things and......

Your Dad sure knows the best places t have relatives, do you two ever come over here visiting?  A trip to Scotland - France and Spain would make a great holiday and when we travel through France we stay in some great places where they let us stay in lovely rooms with Mum & Dad and even let us in the cocktail bar - just not in the restaurant.  We reckon that´s because too many hoomans drop stuff and pick it up to eat again - ´cos if they dropped it and didn´t want it, they´d let us in the restaurant, right?

hope you & your Dad make it to our neck of the woods & to Europe soon,
thanks for writing to us
Red & Islay

I've never been across the pond, but Dad has been to Strasbourg and the general area (and up the Route du Vin) 3 times.  He has a god-daughter who is 3 and he needs to go back and see her again, but when he only has 10 days for holidays it is difficult.  He really wants to go to Scotland (maybe he can find some relatives in Ayrshire as well!!!) and the Alsatians want to take him to southern France and Italy and Greece and Spain.

Our mumsy is also Scottish, she says its to bad that dad is English, Duh we don't know why she says that. Mum emigrated when she was 15 from Renfrew. Nannie is going to stay with her girlfriend in Dumbarton and spend some time on Harris with her sissie. Mum says your dads choice of whiskey is good, she used to sail round there when she was younger

Hi there, da gang!  How´s things down undre today?  It was great to hear from you.
Mum says it´s not THAT bad to be English, but it´s better if you´re from the North?!  We don´t really know much about it, just that we like it wherever people like us, and that seems to be just about every place.
Bet your Nannie has a great visit, Scotland is beautiful everywhere anyway, but we ´specially love the Isles - we go by boat/car every year to Galloway, then onto Iona - Islay - Lewis - Harris then Skye (Portree) before going back to Galloway and Lancashire after that (Nana and Grampy moved there so Grampy is nearer the hospitals).  We love Scotland for grousing, fishing and swimming in Lakes, rivers and the sea - chasing seals - and ´specially shrimping in rock pools, we´re experts and think they´re really funny and tasty.  Sure beats working.
Wishing you all a g´day mates.
Red and Islay

Awwww, you´re making me blush!

A little bird has told me you might be saving a little wiry gentleman of your own, here´s praying it all works out the best for all of you and let me know if I can come and play - I don´t see any bearded dachsies where I live and it´s bad enough being plucked without being shaved too to fit in with the smoothies, don´t you think?
