We have decided to try to get an overseas assignment for the last couple of years of my husband's military service. We thought it would be great to see part of the world before we settle back in Florida. Our first choice is an U.S. Embassy position in Sydney!!! The chances are not as good for us to get this one, because we are late putting in our paperwork, but it is worth a try. I was wondering if either of you know the rules for bringing in pets to the country. I have tried to research it, but have not been successful. Some countries make you quarrentine them for a period of time in a kennel and others will allow you to quarentine them at home if you have all of the paperwork. I wonder how Sgt & Libby will do on the flight over? We really want this assignment, but I am sure there are lots of other people that want it too, and have put in for it. There was another position at a base in the center of Australia, but it looks like we would be in the middle of no where, so we did not put in for it.
Another position that we put in for, and have a much better chance at, is in Japan. That would be exciting too, but Australia, to me, is more exciting. We are also watching for positions in Europe to open up. I really want to see another part of the world, while we have this chance. My husband has been all over the world, but I have only been to Scotland and Mexico. Let me know if either of you knows the answer to my question.

Hi Julie
I think the quarantine rules vary depending on which country the dogs are coming from.
I have researched and here is the info for the US

I'll ring aqus in the morning
I'm not sure what branch of service you are, but check with your post vet. He/she should know all the requirements. I'm somewhat in the same boat as I'm looking for my next assignment and am hoping for Hawaii. I know Hawaii has a 6-month quarantine rule, however, if all shots, bloodwork, and paperwork are timed correctly, those 6-months can be decreased to 5 days.
Good luck!
