Sergeant & Libby went out to patrol the back yard for a little while this morning. We heard Sergeant barking his squealy bark and thought he had a squirrel trapped up a tree. I sent one of the girls out to check on him and she came running back in saying that Sergeant was stuck under the shed. Eric and I ran out there and heard him squealy barking and crying and then heard the horrible sound of a possum hissing. We had blocked off all entrances to under the shed in the past, but something made an opening, and the possum must have decided that would make a good place to sleep. We had to convince Sergeant to come out. When we finally got him out, I did a look over to make sure he was ok, and fortunately, he had not been bitten. We put him inside and then Eric took the hose and shot water under the shed. The possum came out the hole and it was bigger than Sergeant! It started climbing the back fence and Eric squirted it again to get it to fall over the fence. I keep taking deep breaths and am very thankful that he was not hurt.
Sergeant here: I don't know why my mom & dad were so worried, I had everything under control. A couple of more minutes and I would have shown that possum who was boss!!
Wow Sargy you are very brave.
Oh my gosh - what a heart thumper.....mine is pounding just ready your story. So glad our Sgt wasn't bitten - wonder what you can do to keep the possums away?
Sounds like a multi treat day Sgt (and Libby too) and many smoochies - just 'cause mom and dad are so glad you are ok !

Amy and Oliver
mum here, he was a lucky boy, and a good one to come when told. Guess he is a huff about it at the present and wanting to do the post mortum bit.
Wowee!! That does sound frightening!! We have possums here too. I have yet to find a way to get rid of them also. Fortunately, we have never had a close encounter with one yet.
As a little girl growing up, when I went to my friend's house, I had to cross a field where a possum was living. everytime I went through the field I could hear it hissing at me and I ran fast! Sargent must be very brave to go after one of those!! They scare me to death!
Bully to you, Sargeant! Paws up, bud! You could've really given that fat possum a proper dachsie welcome if your mommy hadn't pulled you out from under dat shed. Maybe next time dude. At any rate, we grrrrls KNOWS youse is a FINE hunter and for your super effort, we give your the dachshund PAWS UP! Way to go.
Sandi here. Whew. Those things are SO ugly and mean. I am very wary every time I let the girls out in the back since they have the reputation of snagging 4 possums. Yucky! Yucky!
Hey Julie...has your heartrate returned to normal? I am sure you were absolutely terrified! Thank goodness you heard him out there! We have had a couple really big ones on this side of the bridge as well.....fortunately not in the yard where the puppers play.
Wooo hooo! Dis is Osy here... What's da matter wif dem hoomans Sgt? Don't dey know dat we are perfectly capable of chasin away a silly possum? Guess dey don't know just how good we are at huntin....der always worrying! Your friends over here give you a big thumbs up! :thumb: We think dat you should get da brave boy of da day AWARD!
