We had almost finished the Passover Seder at the church when the tornado siren from the daycare center sounded. Pastor Friz stood, and said, "Well, let's say the final blessing, then get into the interior hallways." We got a lot of hail at the church, but no severe damage.
Roger was at home and watched the rotating wall cloud pass over the house, so he grabbed Ozzy and headed for the basement. The winds snapped a power pole, and we were left without power for 12 hours, until 7:45 am Friday morning.
Amy's best friend from high school is one of the sorority members whose house was destroyed by the Iowa City twister. Amy was on the phone to Liz during the storm, and she said the noise and sounds of destruction were terrible. Everyone in the sorority house is OK, as was everyone in the church that was destroyed as well.
Only one person killed in a small town - she was in a mobile home that got picked up and thrown to the ground.
The University of Iowa web site has some impressive pictures of the damage, including one where the wooden beams from the church were blown into the concrete walls of an apartment building next to it.
Easter Sunday went well. I performed Pachelbel's "Canon in D" for the prelude music, and when I finished, you could hear a pin drop. I love it when my music touches people!!!
So glad everything went well for you and you were all safe! I love that piece of music! I have played that as a duet with my mom - I played flute and she played piano. It was really nice although it's been quite a while since I've played either part (I'd learned both of them since I can play piano a little)!
