Me and the kidz walked up to the end of our street. Our street intersects on an angle to a VERY busy two lane road--a "Y" shape. So I am standing on the leashes 'cause Loki's pooing and I am getting a baggie from my pocket when Zuzu sounds the alarm. Across the street, a man is using a power sander with his back to me. Then his dawg--a very pretty collie--spies us and slowly, like a border collie, hunkers down and starts toward us. I scream: "NO!" and he stops at the edge of the road, and then I start backing up, with Zuzu and Loki barking.
The man never notices that now his dog is crossing the street and very slowly, too, in that "Hey, can I play with you?" way.
I'm thinking I am about to witness a colossally brutal event: this dog is going to get nailed right in front of me. (It never occurs to me that I am in the path of the car when it swerves to avoid the dog.)
So we back up and the dog crosses the street. Right then a kid on a bike comes by and I wave him down for help. He gets off his bike and the dog re-crosses the road. He walks right up to the man, and has to touch him to get his attention, and then he points to me. The guy waves, and sez: "He just wants to meet your dogs." and smiles like an idjit. :verdict: I mumble every epithet in the book (on Good Friday, mind you) and walk away.
So, instead of being a jerk, and hi-tailing it out of there as soon as I see this going down, I try to prevent it, and risk my own neck. Someone was watching over all of us today.
Good grief, girl! Glad you and the puppers are fine and glad the Collie didn't get mooshed. Collies' owner? All I can say is :doah: :dontknow:
Argh! Why are people so stupid??? This kind of thing makes me crazy. I once witnessed a cocker spaniel get nailed on the road as it was crossing over to "say hi" to us (it was me, Jessie, a friend and her schnauzer, we were walking down the sidewalk) . :( I'm glad you guys are all ok.
My first reaction to your post was..."They really should give dog owner competency tests. Thus, weeding out the people that are too stupid to be responsible for another being's life." My second reaction..."Even if there was a way to enforce this, they would just 'dumb' the test down so we'd be right where we are now." Geesh! Glad you all came out of that situation OK.
Glad you are all ok......poor collie....has an :idiot: for a dad.....
I'll never understand why people risk letting their dogs off leash on busy streets. I see it all the time on our street. It's a busy residential street but people drive like idiots and no dog stands a chance if they decide to cross it. Plus, I hate it when unleashed dogs run up to my little girls when I'm walking them on their leashes. It scares them (and me) to death. Sometimes you can't tell if they want to play with them or eat them.
