The three wild Alaskan weeners broke out again yesterday. I checked out large wire kennels and x-pens yesterday. There is a large x-pen available at the local feed store for about $100. I want to look at a couple more stores. We think part of the problem, besides it being a brand new place for them, is that they don't have a window to look out of. So today we let them be loose. Oh, yesterday I bought some calming tablets and Rescue Remedy for them. This morning we blocked off the stairs and closed all other doors except the one to the laundry room where their water and potty pad is. I also put another pad in the living room so hopefully they will use that instead of the corner of the couch. I gave the dogs their frozen peanut butter and cottage cheese-stuffed marrow bones before I left, and I left the radio on for them. I also put notes on the outside door knobs that the "Dogs are loose" for our builder should he come by to work on the deck. We'll keep working on this to find an acceptable solution. I want the dogs to be OK with being contained like they were at the other house.
Poor you. It must be frustrating working on getting the wieners settled in, but I sure giggle at their antics. I heard someone say "You've gotta outstubborn your stubborn dachsie." Maybe plan D will work. Let us know!
Patty- I am so sorry - but I giggled when I read your heading for your post.....I knew they escaped again !!!! I am sure things will calm down soon and maybe this is the answer ! If you do x-pen them - will there be a window they can look out? Is the x-pen tall enough to where they can't climb it and get out?
Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow to hear how the trio fared today......
LOL!!! I'm glad you guys are getting some chuckles out of this. It IS pretty funny in a way. I know that Misty is the instigator. Dan wanted to take her to work with him this morning, I just might let him do that tomorrow and see if the boys will stay put in "their" room without Misty there. But then there is the problem of taking one dog, and leaving the other two heart-broken that they can't go too. So I think we will scrap that idea. They have to learn what is and isn't allowed. And now that they have broken out three times, winning this one will be even more difficult. I will be checking out more x-pens today. Found a site I could order from that had very reasonable prices, but the $49 pen I wanted was going to cost $75-100 to ship to Alaska. I tell you what, I don't know what will come first -- the end of my rope, or Friday -- I need a break.
Dan and I will get the last of our stuff out of the old house this weekend. And I am going to do some serious unpacking.
Hopefully a good long week end with both of you home in the new house will help the puppers settle in..... I am sure last week end and this past week have been hectic for everyone.
Work towards relaxing Saturday evening in front of the fire with a movie !!!!

If we go with the x-pen, I guess we can put it anywhere, including in front of a window. I prefer that they are on the tile, and not on the laminate flooring. I bought a couple of those Pooch Pads, the 4'x4' size that cost $50 each. I am actually going to get Dan to cut me a small log to act as a tree trunk so the boys will have something to aim at. Maybe then they will get the pee on the pad and not next to it.
What a great idea about the log !!! I have never thought of that.......
I put a pp pad down for Brandy when it is raining....but Rudy has never used it. The log is brilliant !!!!
When I first moved out to Wasilla, I still had Christopher, Hasen and Harry. They were NOT paper trained, but there was no way that I could come home for lunch, my commute to Anchorage is 50 miles. SO.....I decided to bring the outdoors in for them, and that's where the log came from. I'd stand the log on end on a towel and newspaper. Worked like a charm. I guess a fire hydrant on a Pooch Pad would work well too.
I am just now catching up after a vacation. I am sorry Patty, but it is very hard not to laugh at these three very smart little doxies. Congratulations on moving into your new house. The puppers should settle down soon, they just need to get used to everything. How is Pepper doing? Does she seem settled in the new barn yet?
I hope all is well when you get home tonight!
Keeping my fingers crossed that Plan B works for you Patty. I also confess to giggling a little over your explanation! Let us know how it goes!
