Ok so we are thinking of getting a friend for donuT but I am in two minds about it.
On one hand I would love to get another puppy, but on the other hand, I love the time I spend with donuT - just him.
I am worried that if there is another dog in the house, donuT will be too focused on the other dog and become too dog-like.. does this make sense?
At the moment he is a real mommy's boy and a big baby and I like it like that..
I am also worried that two dogs are harder to control. It is quite easy to take donuT places, especially since I can either carry him or he can sit on my lap. If there are two, this makes things harder. Thoughts?????
We had Rudy by himself for 8 months and then got Brandy. I don't think I will ever just have one again. I like the fact that they have each other while we are away. Both of mine are still very BIG mama's kids !!!! They follow me everywhere and the minute I sit down - they are in my lap. Granted it is harder to take two furkids places - but you learn how to juggle...or just make hubby go too - so he can watch out for one !!!!
I am sure the two doglets would bond - but I don't think you will ever lose the mama's boy or the baby boy.......Donut will still LOVE that and WANT that from you !
How exciting to be adding to your pack - or thinking of it !!! I love watching my 2 interact and when they get they urge to play together - it cracks me up !!! Snuggling with 2 is just twice the enjoyment !
I am sure you will get much more info from others - but I say GO FOR IT !!!! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:
Its nice having the one-on-one relationship with just one dog, as I did with my first doxie, Christopher Robin. BUT...when you see how they are with one of their own kind around.......well, I'll never have just one again. They like having one of their own kind around. And the first time you see them play and chase each other around the house, you will know that you did the right thing in getting Donut a sibling. Its also easier on everyone when you need to be away from the house for any length of time. They will have each other. I feel a whole lot better when I have to board my dogs, knowing that if I plan ahead, all three can be together in a "run" for the duration of their stay. Sure its a little more difficult when you want to take multiples with you somewhere, its not as easy as just scooping up one dog, but there are ways to overcome the hassle factor, like strollers and stuff. I think two dogs would be very managble and you should go for it.
Yes Paula we were the same with Emma, she was alone for 8 months ans we got Angus. It is lovely to see them together, particularly our pair now, they bond together and my pair are still getting quality time with us as individuals. As Patty says its goos to know if you leave them they have each other.

I worried about Sgt when we were getting Libby too. He was momma's baby boy and I didn't know how he would react to having a little sister. He loved her from the first minute he saw her and they have been best friends since. Sgt is still my little snuggle bug. Libby is snuggly too, and Sgt doesn't mind if she snuggles up but Sgt always makes sure he is the closest to me. I think it helps having two of them together during the day, they keep each other company. Let us know if Donut gets a brother or sister!!

We had Beulah for nine months when we got Oscy. I had concerns as well but it didn't take long until they were the best of friends. The only problem is that Buelah dragged him around by the ears until the cartiledge was totally out of shape and his ears bear no resemblence to a dachise ear! That worked out fine as well because it's one of the only ways to tell Oscy and Toby apart!
Here is a picture of my handsome Oscy-boy with his "special" ears!
What a precious picture of Sgt and Libby !

What a cute story of her dragging him around !!!! Wonder if she thought he was a stuffed toy !!!!! He is a most handsome boy - no matter what his ears look like !
I think your right Auntie Barb! She also used to love to hear him squeek! LOL! Fortunately he doesn't let her do that anymore!

When you do find one that you're interested in take Donut with you and see what his reaction will be.I think Donut would love having a little brother or sister.
The 2 I have now I got a year apart and you'd think they've been together all their lives as much as they watch out for each other.
When I first got Taffy, I thought that I wanted to keep this a one puppy household, because I wanted to have that really close bond with her. And we really do have a close bond. The problem is, it also creates insecurity problems if I want to leave the house, and leave her. I thought about it, and realized that she needed a playmate who didn't have to do the shopping, the housework, sleep once in a while, wanted to socialize with two legged friends, etc. Someone who would not run out of energy after only two or three hours of consecutive playing.
We decided that she needed a sister. I watched the shelters, and lucked out and found Daisy, who is another purebred doxie, this one a piebald, small standard, and presently just nine months old. She was also a surrender. It only took three days for them to become the best of friends, learn to chase each other around the house, play endlessly, vie for waking daddy up, and sitting in Mommy's lap. Not only do I still have as much love and attention from Taffy, I have double the fun and mischief, and more than twice the puppy love.
Go for it....you will love it. Just be sure that you take care to get a compatible friend for Donut. Let her help you choose, if possible. And yes, they will sometimes argue....but so do the two legged sisters....AND BROTHERS....ask me....boy, do I know :2funny:

How exciting Paula!! I'm sure you will cave LOL. Just a matter of finding that right friend for doNut! :) Seems almost everyone ends up with two or more.
