Title: Kinda dumb question
Post by: doxielady5569128 on March 29, 2006, 12:07:02 PM
When I am doing laundry..I find it very hard when it comes to the folding part because Porky will not stay out.  He reaches in the bag and grabs underwear or socks and then parades all over the house with it.  Meanwhile, I am chasing him trying to get it back, which makes it into a game for him.  If I put the basket up on the couch, he will just jump up and then get into it again.  I usually only have time to laundry once a week, so when it gets done it takes at least two hours.  Would it be cruel for me to leave him in his kennel  so I can get my work finished faster?  I don't like to leave him in there for long periods of time, but he can escape anything i put him in besides his kennel.  Any ideas of how to break him of this habit of stealing laundry?  Kinda of a dumb situation I know, but I am desperate to know what to do about it.  Although I have to admit it is funny to see his triumphant face when he sneaks something out of the basket, its like he stole a steak or something. LOL

Penny use to do the same thing with the laundry...in fact she still tries to steal it! She especially loves underwear:) We have taught her the command to "Leve It" which she will drop whatever she has. (the only time it doesn't work is when she is chasing our cat )  I don't think it would be bad to crate him and make sure he is in the area with you so he can see you and you can talk to him.

LOL!!!  Can't help you.  My three think a pile of clean laundry, especially if it is still warm from the dryer, is their own private comfy bed!  I would vote for letting Porky have his fun.  There will always be laundry to fold, but doxies and their games are only on loan to us for a little while.

Mine love the warm laundry too.  You could set aside an old pair of undies or socks and when he tries to get in the clean stuff - move "his" undie or sock towards him - so he thinks he is getting something and carries it off - then hurry and fold !!!!

I usually stand at my dryer and fold on top of the washer and then carry to the bedroom and put away.  But if I dump it on the bed to fold - my 2 just roll around in it !!!!

When we first got Rudy - he would carry off any dirty undies and socks that I sorted on the floor - but he has never tried to "score" the clean stuff.

My Oscy LOVES the warm laundry!  I think he smells it!  That boy can be playing on the other side of the house and the minute that basket hits the floor he is there!
I usually give him a chew while I'm folding.  Keeps him occupied and I fold REALLY fast!

Let the boy have his sockie!  LOL.  This paints such a funny picture.  I bet Porky is ultra cute absconding with prized laundry items!

Thanks for your responses.  I have tried to give him a chew toy while I do laundry, but Porky is much too interested in the laundry to even think about chewing on a "stupid" toy. LOL  Guess I will take Patty's advice and just keep laughing about it.  Don't think there is much else I can do.

And Sandi... I have a picture of Porky with a huge smile cause he "scored" a daddy sock. LOL  Here it is....

Isn't a basket of warm laundry supposed to be a temporary bed?  And aren't they suposed to run around the house with any treasures that they find in that basket of laundry?  I tried giving mine a chewie once while I was folding laundry.  When I walked away for a minute to do something, they both climbed into the laundry with the chewies.  Kind of defeated the purpose!!!!

Adela,
Porky's mother was white with black and tan spots all over her body.  His father is a brown and white piebald, so the colors mixed together and came out in this unique pattern.  One of his grandparents was a black and tan, which explains why he is mainly black and tan in color.  My husband and I think he was the cutest of the litter, although his brothers and sisters were quite cute as well.

There is no way we would ever get rid of our sweet boy.  He is very well behaved for the most part.  I guess if toy destroying and laundry stealing are his worst qualities, we'll take it. LOL  We really loved this picture because when I took it, I didn't see him smiling, so we got a nice surprise when we developed it.
