Title: credit card for vets
Post by: Kathy on March 19, 2006, 04:54:20 PM
I remember reading somewhere here that they recieved a credit card for an expensive surgey.  I just read this heart breaking post and I feel I need to help.  This came off craigslist.  This is what it said.

Technically, he is a 9-year old Dachshund, but if you were to meet him, he's a little people. He's my very best friend. My confidant. He is my child.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, KEEP READING. DON'T STOP YET. PLEASE.
If you are reading this, then you must be an animal lover too and you understand. You understand how important these little guys/gals become to us. He has helped me through a lot of major crises in my life. Always there, always loving me. Unconditionally. Now, when he needs it most, I can't be there for him. BaBoo is in a lot of pain right now because he is in desperate need of a kidney stone removal operation.
My name is Kristine, and I am on a very limited Social Security Income (SSI) and I do not have the money to save him. Because of my SSI, no vet will perform the services on credit. I have been able to come up with $123.00, but the surgery is about $1,200 and has to be paid in full at the time of service. I am willing to work really really hard for you for a donation to help save my BaBoo. Please. Please, if you are able, please help me help him. Each day that passes is so much worse than the previous. PLEASE HELP ME TO SAVE MY BEST FRIEND. I DON'T WANT HIM TO DIE. You can come to the vet with me. You can come to my home and meet him. I will work hard for you at odd jobs or something. Please, if you can, just please please help me. This is my last hope.
I know that in today's society most people will read this and think it a scam or hoax of some sort. I swear to you on my very life, that what I'm saying is true and that this is my last desperate attempt to save my dog, my child, my ........ should you feel what I feel or trust in my words, I welcome you to my home, to meet "him" (BaBoo) yourself. I swear, if you are in any doubt, you won't be. You can see the pain in his eyes and in his every move. My heart hurts so much to know that I am not able to be the "momma" he depends on.
I would never have imagined that I would be in a situation that I would do something such as this posting, but I have tried all other options. Now, I can only pray that there is someone out there who has unfortunately, experienced this kind of helplessness or, someone who understands the importance of our "extended" children.
If you can, PLEASE CALL ME AT (360) 609-6870 ANYTIME Day or Night. Kristine Taskey. This IS very serious. No joke. PLEASE HELP ME HELP MY BABOO. PLEASE!

If anyone can give me this information I would appreciate it.

Care Credit is accepted at the vet office where Roscoe's back surgery was done.

This may be what you are thinking of.  I know Barb said she had used in the past for her own dental work.

It's not really like a regular credit card, because the place has to accept Care Credit payment in order for you to use it.  I actually paid for Roscoe's surgery without this,  I paid half in cash, and put half on my regular credit card and paid it off over the next two months.

Thanks Krista.   That is what I was looking for.  I  like paying for everything in cash for the most part, and I have an arrangement with my vet in case it something extreme.  But this not being my dog I wanted another option just in case.

Kathy,
What area of the country are you in?  My vet would do the surgery on payments.  Ask around, call every vet in the phone book until you find one that just cares and will work with you!

Dottie,

I live in Salem, Oregon.  My vet does payments for me with my dogs when needed, but I not sure how they would react when I would want to pay for a complete strangers dog.  I just want extra options.

When I spoke with her she said she tried to go to different vets to make arrangements but the wouldn't because she was on social security.  It was so sad she was bawling while tring to explaine this to me.

Bless you Kathy.  If you are able to help her find a vet that will work with this, let us know.

We once helped out another member with vet bills - The vet was willing to take credit card payments from many different sources over the phone.  I know several of us paid 25, 50 or 100 of the bill in that manner.  We all felt like it was on the up and up since we paid the vet directly.  The vet even mailed me a receipt.
