Title: How do you move a barn cat?
Post by: PattyInAK on March 06, 2006, 11:49:57 AM
We'll be moving into our new place in a couple of weeks, God willing.  We've had our barn cat, Pepper, for 4 years.  She has always lived in the barn, with her cozy bed, food and heated water bowl.  She's a sweetie, and she and Neeki are buddies.  Do you guys have any tips on how to move her to the new place.  I don't want her to run off, or worse, try to go back to the old place.  Its only a mile away, and its across a busy road.  We can't actually lock her into the barn, but we could lock her up in Dan's shop for a couple of weeks until she settles in.  Got any ideas?  Thanks!

I'm not much of a cat expert but I would think that if she was with Neeki and had her own food dish and such around she will probably be fine.  So many things to think of!  :)  Good Luck!

I hope to keep as many things the same for her as I can.  For instance, I won't wash her bed before I take it over.  It needs it so I will do it now, she will have a couple of weeks to get it broken in again.  I hope that just being with the horses will let her know she is where she is supposed to be.

That would probably do it!!!  I'm sure she will enjoy the new territory at the new place.

Just sumptin I've heard......don't know if it works but you could butter her feet.  She licks it off and gets the smell and taste of the new place and stays put.......OR.......you could tell Neeki to have a cat chat with her telling her that she's got to stay put cuz Neeki says. :)
