Title: Taffy has a new sister.....
Post by: Jacqueline on February 28, 2006, 10:24:26 PM
her name is Daisy.  As many of you know, I got Taffy from the animal control shelter down here.  She was a surrender, and I got her under a sort of strange circumstance.  On Monday, I was coming home from my semi-annual Dr. visit, when I decided to make a detour over to the Lee County Humane Society.  I had never been there, and could not get on their website.  I went in, and everyone seemed busy, so I walked on in to see the dogs.  There were a lot of large, loud dogs up front, but I kept walking back....and there she was.  Having learned my lesson from the other shelter, I took her papers and started back up to the desk, where I was stopped by a woman with a little child about three years old.  They had been talking to the people about her.  She said her daughter wanted the dog.  I told her they were not a good choice for children.  She told me she was raised around them. (SO? Who Cares? LOL)  I asked if she knew how many thousands of dollars back surgery costs, and how easily they could be injured?  She just got sort of nasty and said, "Fine, take a little child's dog.  Okay....worked for me.  The HS people did ask her about it, since she was there first, but she was still tick off and told them to let me have her.  I don't think she stood a chance, anyhow.   They said they were glad I wanted her, they did not approve of children and doxies, either.

So.....I have another beautiful daughter.  I have photos of her and Taffy up at www.home.earthlink.net/~angel65561/  She is 7 months old, born 6/25/05, purebred, surrendered by her owners who are "moving and can't take her".   Gee....too bad for them....I always wonder about that excuse....but WONDERFUL for me.  She had a good home now, and we won't be moving anywhere, and if we did, our babies....doxies and feathered kids...go with us.

Daisy is ADORABLE!!!!!  I love her colors!  It looks like Taffy has accepted her as her new playmate without any problems.  Good luck with your new baby!!!

She's adorable!  Congrats on your new furbaby.

Like Lucylu, I also have a child and a doxie, and they get along very well.  I think it all depends on the disposition of the doxie, plus how the parents teach their child how to treat and handle the dog.  My daughter is only 11 months old, but I have been teaching her how to be gentle when petting Chilie, especially on her back.  And Chilie is wonderful with my daughter too.

However, I can also understand your feelings, too, and I think that Daisy did end up in the best home for her! :)

Congratulations!  She's beautiful!!!
Our Misty is a rescue, I had just finished emailing my application to DRNA and an hour later she showed up.  She was 5 months old and her family had decided that "they just didn't want her anymore."  HELLO?  Talk about your lousy excuses.  Misty was put on a plane with an escort and travelled to us in Alaska all the way from Georgia.  From day one she has been a sweet, happy girl.
You gotta wonder about people, I mean, here you have Daisy, who is so cute, and Misty was this silver dappled puppy for Gods sake.  How could anyone just give them up?  I don't get it.  I'm sure Taffy will show Daisy the ropes, and they will be raising heck and chasing each other around the house in no time.  Looking forward to hearing more about Daisy and Taffy.

Congrats!   Taffy is a beaut.  I've always like the chocolate & tan combination.

I have a dacshie with a two year old.  We've definitely had to work with both of them, with Jessica (the two year old) to teach her to be "nice", and to work with Max to not snap at her.  Max has shown a lot of patience with Jessica.

Rudy, who was one of the most alpha dogs I've ever seen, was completely gentle with Jessica.   Several times, I would catch her tugging on his ears.  I fully expected Rudy to strike back, but he just sat there and took it.   He would even leave her stuffed animals alone.

Glad you gave this new baby a home.  :}

Yay for Daisy!!!  What a cutie pie she is and Taffy is sooooo sweet.  Tell us more on how they are getting along, okay?  Daisy has certainly landed in the butter, that's for sure.

Of course we have had some little squabbles while we decide who is going to be alpha dog (uh kids, that would be ME)....but they seem to agree that driving Mom nuts is fun, fun, fun.  I got Daisy on Monday, and today is Thursday....and we have been sharing toys, water dishes, my lap, and of course, the hold Daddy keeps saying we should not be digging.  Silly Daddy.  Apparently he doesn't realize just how much interesting stuff must be under the lawn.  I am sure when they hit the concrete tank that is our septic tank...they will stop.  Ewwww.

We have discovered that Daisy is one of those dogs who loves to burrow down under the covers to sleep.  Since she is new to the house, we leave a leash on her when she is out....and if not for the leash....you would not know that she is on the couch, under all that bunched up afghan.  Taffy likes to be covered, but not totally wrapped up like that.

The only real fight we had was over the compressed bones.  Taffy thought they should all belong to her.  That will not be a problem again, because they will only get them in the crates, under supervision.  My handy dandy can of air broke that up RIGHT NOW.....and they know not to try it again.  Great training too  :thumb:

For some reason, I keep calling Daisy -  Sophie -   as well as Daisy, so we are making her name Daisy Sophia.  Her name might have been Sophia in a former life??  Since her previous owner filled out paperwork, I know they named her Daisy.  I wonder if she had papers, since she is a purebred, but of course, they never give you those, too.  She might be something like Miss Daisy Sophia of the Tropical South??"

Her vet appointment is tomorrow, and I am sure they will think she is a cutie, too.  That should be funny, both doggies in carriers.  Taffy is not thrilled going to the vet. Wish me luck, lol.

My email reply to you bounced....said they couldn't find your carrier....lol....that will be shock to that company.  Yes, they do look a lot alike.  I really love those little dots all over Daisy's feet....they are so sweet.  She is such a good girl, and wakes me up in the morning with puppy kisses.  I can't imagine how anyone could have been foolish and cold hearted enough to give her up, but I am glad they did.

She is a doll.
I have a toddler with a dachsie and while they occasionally get huffy with one another (don't all siblings?) they are wonderful together.  Little kids and dachsies can mix.
