Title: Porky update...
Post by: doxielady5569128 on February 21, 2006, 02:25:19 AM
Hey everybody!! Just wanted to share some more pictures of Porky with you all.  Its hard to believe in April he will be a year old already!

Porky recently got himself in some big trouble with his mom and dad!!!!  He really didn't mean to hurt anything, he was just chewing on this black thing coming out of the wall... and then...All of a sudden the black thing started sparking and mom got real MAD!   Porky had chewed all the way through the black thing...I guess it made mom mad..all she said was.."you lucky dog...you're lucky you weren't shocked to death by chewing on that computer cord."    Then...when dad got home I heard them talking about what Porky did and dad said, "that's an $80 part!!!"  Wow, they were both mad.. but, us kitties were so happy!!!  we got lots of loves and we made real sure mom and dad knew we were the good ones.  Anyway, Porky snuggled up next to mom and the couch and grinned at her so she had to forgive him.

Meows,
Peter and Petunia (Porky's feline friends)

P.S.  Hope you enjoy the pictures of our friend and especially us!  The picture is pretty old but its the only one mom got of us together.  We like to make her think us felines are too sophisticated to be photographed with Porky.  By the way the beautiful kitty on the left is Peter and the other kitty is my sister Petunia.  Porky wasnt to sure what to think of us beautiful creatures when this photo was taken..Have a good laugh at our faces.

Wow!  That is scary!  Oscy was a "cord chewer" and it scared me to death.  A friend told me to take a tiny bit of tobasco sauce on my fingers and run them along the cords .  It worked!  Oscy HATED the smell and didn't go near the cords again.  When I stopped crating him and he was allowed to stay in the living room while I am out I started to unplug everything, just in case.  So far he hasn't touched the cords but I feel better being safe.  I still rub the tobasco on the cords about once a month!

They sure can be mischievious!  :)

I had/have a goat dog :goat: and the only thing I tried that kept her from eating the cords was rubbing alcohol.  I just wiped the cords down with it and let her smell the cloth as I was wiping things off.  She never tried to chew them again.  She doesn't even mouth them!  I only had to do it once, but you can do it whenever you dust.  Hot sauce didn't work for her as she LOVES hot/spicy foods.  She's a strange hound.

Porky hasn't gone near any cords since this incident thankfully.  I think he got a little zap when he first bit into the cord cause we heard him whimper once.  I think that taught him a lesson as well as my husband and I getting angry with him about it.  Thanks for the ideas about how to keep him away from cords in the future!  Porky loves hot sauce too so I don't think the Tabasco sauce idea would work for him.  When he first started chewing things our vet suggested we buy a spray that tastes really bitter when it gets in the dog's mouth.  But, Porky loved the taste of that too.  And I found when you spray it, it gets on your finger and no matter how much you wash it doesn't come off for a day or so.  So...if you go to eat some chips after using that spray beware you might get a nasty taste in your mouth. LOL My husband and I found that out the hard way. ICK!!!

Penny chewed through a lamp cord when she was a puppy!  :ticked: Also, our cat loves to chew on cords - he chewed through the cord to the flat iron for my hair. Fortunately it was off at the time!

When we got Stormy, it was obvious that as a show dog he had been raised in a kennel.  Being in a house was a new thing for him and he did get hold of a cord.  Fortunately to some very low amperage item, maybe even a transformer for low voltage DC.  Anyway, there was kind of a muffled "pop" and a yipe as he came running out from under a chair.  He has stayed away from cords for the 7 years since.

Our angel Ingrid was the cord chewer I lost my cord to the foot pedal of my NEW sewing machine, so we encased all cables she could get at in sprinkler hose.
Rich its funny to see the reaction to some things after they come out of kennels, Oliver jumped to teh roof the first time we opened the dish washer, Amy she just was curious about everything.
