For those of you who have both stores in your town or have been to both, which do you prefer? We have 2 PetSmarts in Greenville and are soon getting a Petco (can you tell that pets are a big thing around here). I was wondering if there is much difference in prices. The dangerous thing for me and the good thing for the girls is the new Petco will be really easy to get to from my office. Spoiling may happen even more often.
Personally I don't like either, but Sam loves PetSmart because he likes to visit the birds there. If I had to choose it would probaby be PetSmart because of all the stuff they carry.
I personally prefer Petco.
Not sure if it is just here but it seemed like the people at Petco are always willing to check for things for you but I have seen them at Petsmart actually tell a customer the food they wanted that is on sale might have come in today but it was too hard to try and check for it, so to come back tomorrow and if it came in it would "probably" be on the shelf the next day. What happened to customer service? And no it wasn't a busy time either so that was not the reason. The other customer and I weren't impressed. She said she was going across the street where she knew she could get it and they just kind of ignored it.
:idiot:
Zack has been in Petco but after seeing that I have never taken him in Petsmart. Prices were sometimes lower at Petsmart but they don't have the buy 10 bags get one free like Petco does on the premium food.

I go to Petco to get Taffy's compressed rawhide bones, and if I ever need to buy another harness,....I will get it there. But, as far as prices go PetSmart is cheaper. I buy Charlie Bear cheese treats for her, and at Petco, they were only sold in a 6 ounce bag for $2.79, and PetSmart carries them in a 16 ounce bag for $3.99. I also found that the science diet kibble was a dollar a bag cheaper. And Taffy likes to visit the pets there.
I prefer Petco. The girls who do Ozzy's nails are so good and patient with him. The customer service is very good; they were so nice and helpful when Ozzy decided to "do his business" in the store, much to my embarassment.
We have a beautiful leopard gecko, and Petco seems to be the only place that carries reptilian supplies, but I would probably continue to go to Petco because they seemed - at least here in Iowa - to carry more of a variety of food, treats, and supplies.
I saw no difference in prices.
We only have a Petsmart here and it has always been really nice. The people are always helpful and the prices are the same or lower than any other pet store/pet supply place here. Maybe if we had a Petco, I'd feel differently but I don't have any complaints about PetsMart.
:heart:I love Petsmart then are so nice to my Baby
I like both stores..........George and Gracie seems to enjoy Petsmart more........
Petco has more things and food for my chinchillas..........
Prices seems close if not the same!
Petsmart is closer to home, thus I go there more!
I prefer Petco for dogfood they tend to carry a bit better selection and stock Natural Balance. My guys do enjoy going to Petsmart though... it is the home of Bobo ya know
We also have Pet Supplies Plus and they carry lots of good products as does the whole sale store Care A Lot Pets... which is based here in Va Beach. They have good prices and you can order online from their catalog store http://www.carealotpets.com

We like Petsmart better - in San Diego their prices seem to be less expensive than Petco. Although we do get our cat litter at Petco b/c they have refillable canisters.

Did someone say Bobo???! Must kill Bobo :angel12:
No contest here in Des Moines. The Petco is cramped and smelly, reptile and rodents cages have sick and dying animals in them. Petsmart is roomy, airy, clean and all cages are clean and well cared for. The Petco is understaffed, checkouts are interminable while at Petsmart there are plenty of courteous knowledgeable staff and the checkouts operate efficiently. In addition the selection of items at Petsmart is larger and the prices are lower. However, I have not seen a bobo at the local Petsmart.
Thanks so much for all the replies. I'll let you know what I think when the new store opens. Rich, as for finding Bobo, it is a little difficult to find, ours is sold out quite often. Schatzi had one once, for about 5 hours. That is how long it took her to completely destuff him and get BOTH squeakers out. Occasionally she will still show up with the destuffed part of him we let her keep!
