Hello everyone. Just reading the Board trying to catch up on everyone. First of all, DeeDee, don't worry about the mole. You are such a good HuMom worrying about your woobie (and I'm always trying to inspect every part of my dogs' bodies, too). You did what you needed to do getting the second opinion. By the way, I noticed in the piccies of Miss Hallie, you don't trim her tuffs around her paws. Is that a show thing? I always wonder if I should be trimming my longhairs' paws, but find that the snow and ice don't cake up in there as much when trimmed. Barb, I am so happy for your "reunion"! April, good luck with Cajsa's checkup. By the way, I heard grapes, raisins and the like are toxic to dogs' kidneys, so be careful with those cans!! Mack, I hope things are better with Willy, poor baby. Thoughts are definitely with you, as well as Clarese with Finnious. And Teresa, I loved the pictures of Ms. Schatzi. She has some svelte figure!!
As for us here in Colorado, Kleine is still holding her own with her arched back and wobbly walk. Like a true Doxie, she just isn't letting anything get to her. (Wish her HuMom could take lessons on that level....) She gets all around the house and is actually doing a little bit better on the wood floors, even though we have rugs and mats all over the place for her to negotiate around. I registered complaints with the Colorado Board of Veterinary Medicine about my dealings with the vet who did her surgery and CSU. Just had to do that, at least, for my little girl.
We lost two kitties to kidney failure in two months, so that was very sad. One went overnight, after being given subcue fluids for a year, and the other (John's kitty) was just trying to hang on, but had to be helped to the bridge. At the end you could feel every little bone in his body but John just wouldn't let go. I finally told him he had to do the right thing.
I am walking on my ankle, but it still hurts, especially when I do too much. I am scheduled to have the hardware removed in March, at which time I will have to be on crutches for two weeks while the "holes from the screws" heal. Not looking forward to that, but just want to get this all over with so I will be in hiking condition for the summer. I am really missing skiing, snowshoeing and the like and it is very frustrating not being able to even go for a walk. I got so upset the other day I actually got in the Xterra and drove the clutch, and then paid for it afterwards!
John is ecstatic about the Steelers (being from Pittsburgh) and went to the game in Denver. It was a beautiful, sunny day and he said a lot of Steeler fans were there (I was afraid he would get overrun by Broncos fans, but he said everyone was really nice) and he actually got on the field and had a talk with Couch Cower (don't ask....my husband has ways...).
Will try and post some pictures soon.....Luther has finally come around to loving me (not as much as John, but I'll take it) and is just such a character. I am so glad we adopted him from Nebraska.
Hey! Thanks for catching us up on your gang. Give Kleine a snuggle for me. Sorry about the kitties. So sad. Glad your ankle is getting better. And Luther, you big sweetie. Glad you're feeling more like snuggling on mom these days. There's always plenty of snuggles to go around for all.
AFter all the time Luther had to snuggle with you while you were recuperating from the ankle, he should really be bonded with you now. I'm glad to know that he has. Of course, John will always be his first love. I'm glad John didn't get run over by the Broncos fans. At least they were considerate to the other side. Give the pups a belly rub from me.
So good to hear from you Eileen. I'm happy to hear Kleine is holding her own! What a girl. And Luther is coming around, that's so great. Boy you sure have been through the wringer with your ankle though, yes it will be nice to have that hardware out and get on with a good summer. Too sad about your kitties...I'm so sorry. I lost my Chester to that, giving the fluids 3 times a day and all that stuff, even though you know you will lose them eventually, with all that effort for them, it feels really unfair when the end comes.
I'm not a sports fan and am usually clueless but the whole area around here is flipping over the Seahawks making it to the Superbowl. I may just have to watch that one!
I do over react sometimes with the little things, I have been told too many times that something little and innocent looking on someone close to me was nothing to worry about...and then I lose them, both human and animal family. So the little things terrify me sometimes. The long hair on the feeties isn't a show thing, in fact the feet are trimmed up nice for the breed ring, (it doesn't matter for obedience but most people do it anyway). I let it grow because when I got her, her nails were sooo long, and I've got them back pretty good now but I still like to cover them with hair so people don't think I'm a bad Mom and let them get that long myself (they really are fine health wise now but still longer than most show people let their dogs nails get. I wish I could get them shorter yet but I can't without quicking her and I won't do that). Also I think the hair feets is SO darn cute, I call her my little Clydesdale. I do trim the hair off the bottoms though so she will have more traction and not slip on stuff.
Keep taking care of yourself and those Woobies!
Eileen, thanks for the update, and I am so sorry about the loss of the two kitties.
This Alaskan is not into football but is happy about the Seahawks making it to the Super Bowl. I follow my fathers philosophy......root for the northern most, or western most team. I was born in Washington State, so I will be rooting for the Seahawks.
Take it easy on that ankle/foot.
