Title: OK, For all who asked about my new job....
Post by: Sandishooligans on January 24, 2006, 11:00:07 AM
As you can see, I'm on the board lots more than I used to be.  This is quite the change for me from healthcare to TV care.  I presently work for a friend who has a TV repair biz.  I'm the "office manager" and am still learning the lingo of fancy TVs.  The GOOD part about this job is:  It pays more per hour.  It's 4 days a week.  It's a walk from home (about 1/2 mile) AND when I have down time, I can read, write, or play on the internet.  The not-so-great part, and maybe this is all in the perspective that I'm USED to being wildly busy, is there's LOTS of down time and sometimes my days really DRAG.  Since I'm still gun shy about putering on Co. time (Got fired for that, remember?), it feels weird to play here and get paid for it.  If I had my druthers, I think I'd really rather be a bit busier but hey!  Things seem to be working out for now.  It's certainly a WAY less stressful place than where I was and I don't have a charging Rottweiler for a boss.  I will prolly feel more comfortable here when I know what the heck I'm doing.  So for now, look for me on the weeeener board more than I was.

Mark is still looking.  He's a clerical person and the main thing seems to be a bit of discrimination.  Y' don't usually find a man looking to do clerical work but that's what he likes and that's what he's good at.  If ya could, please send a few rays to him that he finds something soon.

Sounds like overall the job is a great change. Jobs shouldn't always be stressful and busy!!! Maybe when you get more comfterable you could start a fun office project, that way it would still be fun, but productive. How luckey you are to have a job so close to home, especially with how high gas is now a days. Way to go one the new job!!  :apls:

Yeah, the commute is especially good for me because due to a vision impairment, I can't drive!  Ha!  It's funny, we are a 4 person business.  The owner, his wife, Deanna, who isn't here very often, another technician and me.  Jerry has a hearing loss and I have a vision thing, so Robert has essentially hired a deaf guy and a blind gal to run his business.

Sandy,  you might look into taking some self-paced online classes through the local community college to upgrade or increase your skills (I took a couple of Microsoft classes that way).  That way you can be using the computer to your advantage and increasing your worth to the boss.

Good luck to Mark in his quest and pats to the grrlz.

I bet your back is still doing better without all that stress from your old boss.  I am glad that you found something better.  I know how much you hated the other place.  Mark will find something.  Give the grrls belly rubs and smoochies from Auntie Nikki.

That's a great idea Mike. This sounds like a job much more suited to you, close to home, good hours, less stress. Sending rays too that Mark finds a great job soon too!
