Title: Dachie movies
Post by: My Hounds on January 05, 2006, 10:02:56 PM
I am looking for some Dachie movies.  I heard the movie The ugly Dachshund was good, I was told to look at Best Buy and Walmart.  I  have looked at two of each store and can't find it.  If anyone can help with this movie or others on our beloved friends, it would be much appreciated.  Dawn

One of my favorite doxie movies is "Once Upon a Crime" with John Candy, Richard Lewis, Sean Young and Sybil Shepherd. The Ugly Dachshund is one of my favorites as I used to have a Great Dane and a Dachshund at the same time.

I have tried to get "Once Upon a Crime" - maybe they'll reissue it!  I know of two more movies with glimpses of dachsies - in the original "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (Alfred Hitchcock, from the 30s, I think) a little dachsie runs across the bottom of a ski jump, and the skier flubs up.  In a movie with Melanie Griffith and Tom Hanks, at the beginning, he takes a red smooth out for a walk - can't think of the name right now, though.

The Tom Hanks movie was a real stinker called The bonfire of the vanities.

In the movie "Hitch", early on Will Smith uses a decoy dog to distract the dog of a woman he is trying to get the attention of.  One of these two dogs is a dachshund.  (Can you tell that either; (a) my memory is failing or (b) I wasn't paying that much attention?)

The on-line store at Best Buy shows The Ugly Dachshund DVD is available and on sale for $13.59 (plus taxes I'm sure).

In Hitch, the dog that is distracted is a dachsie.  I liked that movie.  I don't own it though...maybe I'll use my Christmas money to get it...

Also the Kate Hudson movie - Raising Helen and the Garfield movie also have dachsies in them

Here''s a trivia bit for ya - Years ago Disney did a TV movie of the book Hurry Home Candy about a little dog that gets lost when the family moves and he finds his way home to them.  In the movie the part of Candy was played by a dachsie.  Sorry, but I can't find any reference on it anywhere except my memory. And that is because we had a b/t smooth named Candy at the time.

Ebay often has hard to find movies up for bid, this link is for a item ending in six days.    The bad part is paying for the shipping, in this case $4.95.
