Title: neutering ??
Post by: dotzmom on December 22, 2005, 12:30:26 PM
Merry Christmas gang!
I hope to get time to post a pic tonight.

??  Have any of you experienced problems with your boys after neutering?
Frankie had his surgery a week ago (wed).  Everything was fine.  The next
day he was great.  Then tuesday evening when I went home he was red
& swollen bigger than a golf ball.  I took him to the vet & she gave him
meds & said to use cool compresses.   I was surprised he liked that.  lol!
I was just wondering if this is more common for boys.
Dottie had no problems at all (neither did my cat) & all had the same vet.
Just curious.  I was so worried about him.  He looked awful & it has had
a bloody drainage (sorry!).
Send him some rays so that he's feeling good enough to go to
Grannie's & Grandbo's for Christmas. ;-)

Oh no !  Sounds like he may have gotten an infection - or he was rubbing his area......Do the meds seem to be helping?  What did the vet say as to how long before the incision starts  looking better?    Poor baby - sending rays in full force that he heals up quickly.  Keep a watch and don't hesitate to call the vet back if you don't see an improvement.  Smoochies to Frankie

She said it's hard to tell.  He hasn't been bothering it much so he may have pulled something.
The incision looked wonderful until tuesday.  Then it swelled up with just a tiny hole open.
He's on anti-biotics & pain w/anti-inflamitory meds.  Yesterday I spent the day pushing meds,
cleaning, puting on neosporin & cool compresses.
He was a riot.  I'd lay him back against a pillow and he'd sack out with a cool cloth
between his leg while I gave belly scratches.  You'd have thought he was in heaven.  lol!
I just worry about him while I'm at work.  It swelled so quickly.
He looked so pitiful.  You could see how sick he was.  Even his eyes were dull.
He was full speed this morning.  Probally a lot of the problem.
She wanted me to put the collar on him but if I do he can't get out to go potty.
So we'll see what happens tonight.
Thanks for the rays!

Oh gosh.  I only have one boy and he came to us de-golf balled.  I would definitely keep checking it and let the vet know if it doesn't get better.  Sounds like you are being an excellent nurse, tho.  Poor baby....

When I had Sully Angel neutered he was fine the first few days then I noticed a pea sized lump near the end of the incision.  Took him to the vet and the doc pulled the suture out from the end of the incision - the incision had started to heal around a knot on the inside of his body.  Once the knot was gone so was the lump.

It sounds like he did get an infection there.  Maybe the incision had just started to heal funny.  Either way it sounds like he got the meds/treatment to help it start getting better.
Here's hoping that they are able to go to Grannie and Grandbo's for Christmas!
