Hi everybody,
I was active in the DC about ten years ago. DH and I have two human kids (18 and 7) and two furkids (both 11 years old). Willy is a red longhaired "tweenie" (16 lbs) and Max is a black-and-tan longhaired standard--both doxies, of course. My mom had a miniature schnauzer, Sophie, who died of kidney failure in November. Mom loves Max and Willy, and she always thought she would like to have a doxie of her own. At Mom's age (78), she was interested in a grown-up dog rather than a puppy, so I encouraged her to adopt an adult doxie in need of a home. She registered with the Nebraska Humane Society as well as Hearts United for Animals. About a week ago NHS notified us that they had a longhaired female doxie in need of a home. We went to NHS last Sunday to meet Shelby, and we found out that she was part of a pair who would be placed together. Buddy has been with her since birth, and they are very attached to each other. Mom and I both fell in love, and she took home Shelby and Buddy that afternoon. It is working out great. Shelby (renamed Chelsy by my mom) is a red longhaired tweenie (about 9 years old) and Buddy is a black-and-tan smooth tweenie (4 years old). They are both friendly, easygoing dogs, and Mom is totally smitten with her new furkids. Max and Willy aren't too sure about them yet, but with patience I think they will get along fine. It's so much fun to have two new doxies to love. I get to see them every day, as my mom lives right down the street. Just had to share a happy "tail" with you!

Janet, what a great story. We rescued our boy, Luther (sable LH), from Hearts United last April, and they do seem to get quite a few Doxies there. They were so nice, since we live in Colorado, they arranged for another adopting Human who was going to Wyoming with his adopted doggie to meet us with Luther at the Colorado border. Those two lucky woobies.......
