Lucy - our 10 month old rescue - is chewing on EVERYTHING in site!  I remember Berman chewing on our tables, but we just sprayed Bitter Apple and he stopped.  Well, Lucy chews through the Bitter Apple!  I tried using Tobasco sauce, but it stains.  Lucy is currently destuffing a chair which is no big deal - we didn't like it anyway, but she's eating the stuffing and getting sick.  I also worry that if we get rid of the chair, she'll chew on our nicer furniture.  She does all of this chewing during the day when we're not home. I know this is just a phase, but how do we work with her on this problem when she doesn't do it in front of us?

FYI - We haven't crated Lucy because we thought it would be unfair to crate her and not Berman.

Any ideas?

Understand you not wanting to crate only one - could you corral her or both of them in a room or restricted area (like the kitchen) with less chewable things?  Also, a lot of people say giving a Kong (stuffed with small treats and peanut butter or yogurt and fozen) has helped keep their dog busy for a while after they leave during the day.

My girls chewed on EVERYTHING at her age, too.  It just recently occurred to us that at some point they seem to have stopped that.  I am sending best wishes that your important possessions survive puppyhood.

I've used Off Paw spray and that seems to have stopped Abbie from chewing on most things.  I've never tried the Bitter Apple.  Despite Off Paw working on most things, Abbie still chews on the knob handles of my entertainment center.  I don't know why, but it could be my failure to spray the Off Paw on every 24-hours.  A neighbor had recommended spraying things down with vinegar.  I never tried that though.

I would also recommend penning them off during the day - using baby gates or possibly an x-pen.....kongs are great to keep them busy...hang in there mom - don't get the new furniture yet....she will grow out of it !!!

I know it's not a funny thing to have your furniture chewed by the little ones.  Bridget did the same thing to our last couch when she was a baby.  Fortunately, she DID outgrow it.  But I have this vision of your baby treating the chair like a gigantic Bobo.   :2funny:  I agree with penning them in a room where there's not much they can get into.  Hopefully with toys of her own, she won't get into as much mischief.

Scooter is 11 months old and he chews on everything if left out.  I crate him when I leave and keep him with me when I'm home.  I restrict is "alone time" to outside.  I crate Scooter and sometimes Miller and leave the others out and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.  They accept it pretty well, especially Scooter since he's always been crated when I leave.
