Rich

Our beautiful little princess is at the bridge.

For a couple of weeks after her last vet trip she seemed to be doing ok, but for the last week she hasn't wanted to eat, has spent more time sleeping and it was obvious that she was having more and more trouble urinating. Last night after we went to bed we heard a little yelp and when we turned on the light she had lost the use of her hind legs and was completely disoriented. We think that she had a stroke. She woke us a couple of times during the night whining and moaning and Deb sat up holding her until she went back to sleep. In the morning it was obvious that she was in a bad way. We could have addressed the back legs problem with aggressive treatment but with the kidney failure and the bladder tumor it would not have been something we were doing for her, it would have been something we were doing for us. Her quality of life was going to be negative at best. So we were at the vet's office when they opened this morning and we said goodbye holding her while she left us.

We know it was time. We know we gave her the last gift we had to give - but that doesn't make it any easier. No matter how many you say goodbye to, it never gets easier and it seems that the older we get the larger the hole they leave in our hearts. Hug all your furkids today. We never know how much time we may have with them.

I'm so sorry to read this.  I had hoped that you would have a little longer as with Stormy.  You did the very best for her from the first day she arrived with DeeDee.  I am proud to have met Sophie and she has always had a special spot in my heart.  I'm sure she is happy to be with her big brother and maybe a little to meet Clifford again. May your hearts find solace in that until we all meet them again.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Oh, my - I didn't want to see this post - I was so in hopes that it was a momentary glitch in Sophie's life.  She will be given the royal tour by our dear ones.   You are so right - when we lose one, the hole seems bigger each time.  I am sure it was a comfort to all of you, to be there at her passing.  Wings to Sophie!

A sad start to the week but knowing that you were the loving hoomans and gave her the best throughout her life and even at the end of her life, that is what soothes my heart.  Dear Sophie.  How I remember all those year ago when first DD brought her home from the city shelter and then how she came to be your sweet little girly girl.  I will always remember your tales of her and wish you peace today.  It's not easy to do what you did but you did her a great kindness.  You showed your love right to the end.  My heart to yours.

Our thoughts are with with you both.  I think she probably knew how lucky  was, and what a marvelous life she had. The hole left when they go is hard, and no words can really help just know we are all here for you.

I am just catching up on this news and can't really put it any better way than Roberta.  It just leaves you trampled when they pass.  ope it's better now that a few weeks have gone by.  Love, Leslie
