I was looking down at Schatzi a little while ago and realized she was starting to get the first sign of white on her muzzle. How does that seem to happen overnight??? I do NOT like this!! Just a few weeks ago we were at Furman, a nearby university, walking and I  was talking to a fellow doxie owner. His doxie was seven and had quite a bit of white starting. I was looking at Schatzi then and was quite surprised that at almost nine, she had none. Well, I can't say that anymore.
I said something to Randy about it just now, and he said, "No, didn't you know she just walked through white paint and got some on the tips there?". I was surprised he had noticed, too.
I love my little girl. I know she has many years left, but this is definitely a sign of the passing of time.
I will get a picture of her when she isn't hiding her head under a blanket. It suddenly got cold here in the South!

I know exactly what you mean.  Islay was 9 on September 11th and Red will be 10 this month on the 21st.  I don't know where the time has gone.

Red has suddenly got a hint of white in his socks - Miguel said he had gone blonde in the sun - and a peppering of white in his beard too.  I reckon it looks very distinguished.   Islay has a teeny bit of white under her chin and what looks like a touch of shimmery face powder around her eyes and cheeks.

Please give Schatzi a big hug from all of us.

Reilly's only 5 and she's already starting to grey.  She's going to be very white when she's older, I suspect.

yes we remember when we first took Amy for her vet check and Ray our vet said that was us good for a long while......................now I have a wee white masked man almost looks like a fox and is just over 12. Ms Amy is fairing a bit better with under her chin dipped in flour, plus 2 white long hairs near  her right eye, thinking of dying these as they really stand out, but with her its just having her. Amy is just turned 11.

Danni  turned 3 in June and she has tiny white hairs under her one eye that I swear weren't there before.

Max-angel had a little splash of white right at the tip of his snout when he was 4.   It gradually worked its way back until he was about 50/50 white and clear red by the time he passed.  Rudy-angel started getting his "mask" around 6 or 7, but the rest of his fur stayed dark.  Zora's tan points have almost completely whited out.   Zeke, being a blue, his tan points are just blending into the rest of his fur.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason with white hairs.  I've seen them on very young dogs, and I've seen some 12+ year old ones that have almost no white hair.

Patches will be 7 in January she has a few white hairs here and there.

Shimmering face powder is a great way to describe it! She was given a hug from everyone!

Just consider it a bit of highlighting.

David C. Is so right that greying - or white - is irrelevant as far as longevity is concerned.

NDR:

We have a good friend in Segovia who worked for me when he was 24 in Madrid fresh out of Cornell and had gorgeous grey hair and the hugest black eyes ever.  The grey gave instant gravitas and the eyes and professionalism the rest.  If he had dyed his hair he would have lost his main and most striking advantage.

Treasure those white hairs. I do!

Parker also has a few white whiskers. He's only 5. Still full of energy however, and still a naughty little beast.

My Missy is 7 1/2 and has the starting of white undet the chin and mouth.  My wife said to her "You need to go to  the hairdresser and get your chin dyed"   :2funny:
