I think as long as they don't have any problems like separation anxiety, and they have a way to go potty, leaving them for 10 hours is okay.  My three are gated in the kitchen, with their beds, water and puppy pads.  They usually sleep the day away.  When I come home they get a treat immediately, to tide them over until dinner.  At night they sleep in the big bed with us.

Brekke is only alone when Hoodad has headed north to visit her hoobrudder, and then it is while I am at work.  She has access to a gated 6 ft. fenced yard, and uses her doggie door, and I keep a soft rock station on the radio when she is alone.

Dogs live in the present so they will not know the difference between 8 or 10 hours.  As long as they can go potty and do their normal things I would think it would be okay.  Whatever makes you comfortable.  JMO.
