David C.

Do you take one pupper's barks more seriously than anothers?

Zeke barks at just about everything, including us.   We've learned whenever Zora barks, we ought to pay attention.   I'd say more than two-thirds of her barks are "protection barks", that is, she is signalling that there is a potential threat nearby (usually another hooman, but occasionally another dog).    Most of the time, when Jessica is in the backyard, Zora will stay up on her "perch" on the deck and keep an eye on things.  When she sees something, she lets out a bark.   Even Zeke "snaps to" whenever Zora barls, as his endless criss-crossing of the backyard (again, usually within about 15 yards of wherever Jessica is) stops and he goes to "alert".

The remainder of Zora's barks are split between responding to other dogs' barking and her "let me in"  (or "let me out") barks.

Bonnie is by far the least barky dachsie we've owned.  Her big thing is barking at the neighbor dog and patrolling the fence when she does it.  I always tell her, "If Harley breaks down the fence, you've got no one to blame but yourself."  She doesn't care.  She still barks at Harley, the Doberman/Mix who is as gentle as a lamb.  Rarely does Harley bother to answer back.  Bonnie rarely barks at people.  A couple of months ago, we had furniture guys bringing in and assembling our bedroom set.  They didn't even know, until I mentioned it, that we had a dog.  Bonnie just stayed on her futon in the computer room.  I think she didn't even wake up, but I KNOW there is NOTHING wrong with her hearing.  She just didn't think it was worth the effort, I guess.
Mommy to the sweetest Bon Bon!

Roberta

David our pair are more vocal in diffrent situations. But I would say its Oliver as he has a few different barks from "let me out idiots" to come quick mum .................but I suppose on thinking if Amy (ms independance ) barked I'd run as she rarely barks except for dinner.

Patches the Dachshund is 100% watch dog Buddy a 90 # Black & Rust Doberman does not bark in the house not even when some one knocks on the door ???? not when some one is around worst watch dog we have ever had. If in the back yard he will bark at the feral cats in the brick yard behind us ???. papbouv

Barb

Mary is a yapper, and barks at anything making noise - and anyone coming in the door, and the other doggies just to antagonize them!!!

Holly barks when Mary starts barking, just because.

Rudy barks at ME - but he is telling me to hop to!   Not often anymore does he join in when the others are barking - he figures they have it covered !

Toby is the one that I make sure to check.  His are protective barks - warranted or not - but to him....anyone coming to the house deserves warning....and when the kids next door get rowdy...or scream - he is letting them over the fence know to not hurt his kids !!!  (LOL - he loves kids).

Eddie Angel hardly ever barked, except when he wanted something.  Sam never barked, just growled when he was displeased or upset.  Danni, barks to eat, to be let out and to call to the dog across the fence, who I tell her could eat her for lunch.  I know when Danni's barks are rapid fired there is something wrong or when she gets out of bed at Midnight and runs barking through the house that there is some unknown factor outside.

Kathleen

Definitely.  Murphy barks at EVERYTHING, so, we tend to ignore him.  Winston does bark at squirrels, but otherwise, he only barks when a stranger is around, so when he does bark, we check.

Brekkesmom

Brekke barks at nearly everything, Bastian barks at a lot, Rowan barks if we're waiting for treats because somedog hasn't come in yet, but if Robbie barks, I definitely pay attention!
owned and operated by Mirrim, Lessa, and Torene, also forever by angels Friedrich, Heidi, Gretl, Siglen, Sorcha, Brekke, Rowan, Robinton, and Bastian.

Dianne

Yes!  Judy (Jude) is a prolific barker.  She will bark at anything and everyone.  However; if Dottie barks we pay attention.  She only barks to let you know something is going on!
