I had an email from Dee last night on my AOL, which I can't get here and work, so I will copy and paste it tonight.....

He has pain meds, antibiotics, and was just wanting to come home !!!!  Dee said he went right to the water bowl...him was a thirsty boy !  Said he seemed really itchy - so she called and they said to give him benedryl and he calmed down.  Mommy was sitting on the floor just rubbing him   I am sure ALL of them are glad this is done and he is back home !!!

Haven't heard a report this morning, but he should be recovering just fine !  Will let you all know !

Here is Dee's email from last night:We are home....I got Sarge home at about 5:30 pm.  The first thing he did was go and sit where the water dish normally is....poor little guy was thirsty.  I gave him water a bit earlier than they said but he was breaking my heart.  He is still groggy from the anethesia and still wobbly a little.  They said he would be back to normal by tomorrow.  He kept wanting to go outside and piddle and he had to poop.  He finally got a little poop out but then he came in and paced....and wanted to scratch his sides....not his incision just his body.  And, then he paced to go outside......and I'm suppose to keep him calm!  I tried to set up the x pen with him in it and he just cried and howled..I couldn't handle that.  So I called the vet back and talked to the evening vet.  Said he appeared really itchy on his body so she told me to give him a 1/4 tablet of benedryl.  I did that and he has calmed down right away.  He crawled on some of his blankets and is now sleeping.  I am sitting on the floor next to him and rubbed his body until he fell asleep.

They said he did very well.  The doc said that as he came out of the anathesia, he cried...didn't know if that was from pain or the fact that he wanted to go home.  When I picked him up, both his eyes has sleepy goop in them.  The gals told me that from 1:30 on, he sat at the front of the crate and just kept watching and had the look of I want to go home.  His incision is small and he only has stitches in it and he does not have to wear an e collar unless he starts to rub the sutures.  "Bob" as the cyst has been named by the vet has been sent out to be analyzed.  The vet said he didn't know what it was...had a lot of tissue in it and said it appeared that there was some type of infection also, possibly.  Medicine wise, they did give him an injection of pain meds at about 1:30 pm and sent me home with Rimadyl and Clavamox.  He will get a Rimadyl tonight and I am suppose to call tomorrow before he starts the Clavamox since he had the itches tonight.  Goes back in,  on the 9th of May, to have the sutures removed. One thing I need to remember is that I need to not show my worry as he picks up on that immediately.  Duggie is being really good about not bothering Sarge.  He is being a very good big brother.

And from this morning:
He is doing much better.  Last night was kinda rough in the beginning.  He got the itchies last night so got a quarter tab of benedryl....worked just beautiful.  Then at 10, I gave him his rymadal and then we went outside and to bed.  We were in bed about an hour when he got the reverse sneeze and got it hard.  The thing was that he was so sound asleep, he couldn't even get his eyes open.  So I am calling his name, lifting up his lips, blocking his nose to get him to open up his mouth and get air in.  Finally got it done.  He had a few more episodes, but he woke himself up and lifted up his head and opened his mouth and licked.  After that bout, he slept all night.  I had to get him out of bed this morning so I could make the bed before I went to get Reagan.  Went outside....he peed, his gait is not wobbly and seems to be doing okay.  I called the vets office this morning as I was instructed to do before giving him the Clavamox.  Dr asked if he was still itchy, said no, so he said to give him the med and if he became itchy again to call.  No more itchies.  He has been sleeping the morning away.....had breakfast, took his two meds and is now sound asleep which is just fine.  It is really raining here right now, so am not going to make them go out until they ask.  Duggie is being really good about leaving Sarge's sutures alone.  I've only had to tell him twice to not lick them.  They are both curled up in their favorite chair under the blankets sleeping next to each other.  Put another cushion on the floor in case he wants to get down on his own.  So, we are doing better today.

Thanks for posting the updates Barb.  It's good to hear Sarge is coming along.  Sending rays the itchies stay away AND Bob is a benign little bugger.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Wonder if he is trying to develop an allergy to the anesthesia might remind them if he ever has to be put under for anything again so they will watch him really close, have EPPY on hand.Makes me wonder when he was doing the reverse sneezing and not waking up that would have me worried. More Rays and Hugs to all.PS: I think i would tell the vet about the revers sneezing and not waking up ???

Hi all......Barb, thanks for passing on the updates~~all is going well and Sarge is doing really well.  He is healing quite well and is being a good patient.  Pretty lazy throughout the day and that's what we want for the next several days.  He is good about leaving his stitches alone so haven't had to get an e collar for him...yeah!  The kids were here last night for our daughter's late birthday dinner and he proudly sported his new look and as typical of a doxie, took in all the attention they showered on him and Duggie.  Duggie has been SO good and has not bothered Sarge's sutures at all.  He is staying pretty close to his brother and watches over him.  Papbouv, the doc has been notified about the reverse sneezing when I called them yesterday morning before starting his second medication.  We've had no more incidents happening since Wednesday night.  Sarge is taking his meds quite well.....have had to switch to a small piece of roast beef lunch meat to hide the pill in......he figured out the cheese angle.  He goes back in on May 9 to get his stitches out.

So, thank you all for the rays......as always....the worked!!

We are hoping that the nasty Bob is not nasty, also!  The vet that did the surgery can be a funny guy....when he said that "Bob" was sent off to WSU at Pullman (to the Vet Specialists.....), I kinda looked at him and said, "Bob????".  Yeah, he said, we named the bob, "Bob".  Lack of sleep on my part!  Then, he said, here is the sock that Bob was wearing........  We are doing much better now and Sarge is back to "hoovering" the floor with Duggie in tow.  Sarge is toting his new look quite proudly!  Now, we just need to get Dave's titanium shoulder unfrozen!  He starts PT next week to loosen his shoulder up which literally has become frozen!  Just adding a few more servings of whatever to my plate!!

Barb....Sarge is doing absolutely fantastic!  He takes his meds twice a day with absolutely no problems....as long as it is wrapped in a small piece of roast beef!  He leaves his sutures alone and doesn't fuss with them.  A couple times, he went to scratch but not at the sutures...rather his ear.  When I checked his ear, he had some dirt and loose hairs in it, so I cleaned it and he is just fine now not fussing about scratching!  He is back to his usual self......am keeping him calm, however, and not letting him wrestle with his brother.....not until after the 9th, can they wrestle.  Duggie is being so good about leaving Sarge's sutures alone!  Am very proud of both my boys.  I took a couple of pictures and will try to get them downloaded later today and post a few.

Sarge is doing fantastic. His surgery site is healing really well.....he is his usual self.  Here is a picture of his surgery site.......

I took Duggie in on Monday evening to get his glands expressed....he was not a happy camper about that!  While I was there, the doctor did say that they received a preliminary report back from WSU on "Bob" the tumor.  They said it is something quite rare and they haven't seen before.  So far, it is benign but because of the rarity of it, they were going to do more tests on it.  Would sure appreciate the rays coming that "Bob" remains in the status of benign!!
