Hallie and I entered her first nosework trial and it was today and my little girl passed with flying colors! Little Blind Doggies RULE! I'm so proud of the little monkey and she seems to be pretty darned proud of herself. She did it in one minute flat! (ORT = Odor Recognition Test)

Ha! I do need it more than her. I still can't believe we did it, she started by swinging wide left and right trying to locate the boxes (the other doggies of course just go in a straight line down the boxes). My plan was to take her down one side and back the other and if I wasn't sure which box, to do it a second time and hope we had time. But the way she was angling I lost track of which boxes she had checked and which she hadn't. (the handlers don't know which box the scent is in, when we think the dog has found it, we say "Alert!" if we're wrong we flunk). On the fourth box she hit, she paused an extra second while sniffing it and shot me a quick look, my plan to do all the boxes first went out the window and the word "Alert" came out of my mouth. I about fainted when they said right. One of the officials kept saying boy you sure do know your dog and I was thinking if only you knew how unsure I was.

Now I'm going to brush and puff her and we're off to get her picture taken with Santa!  :thumb:

Yeah Congratulations Miss Hallie and her doubting Mom they must think us humans are really dumb they know more than we give them credit for no matter if they are blind,deaf three legged or what ever.They do not let disability's bother them at all they just go on like its no big deal.Glad all went well and Miss Hallie passed with flying colors. Thanks Papbouv and kids, I agree, dogs really take things life throws at them and just move on. Hallie makes it hard for me to stay down about her blindness.

Curious does Miss Hallie passing give her a title to add to her name ? you know like Buddy has a CGC Canine Good Citizen Ship Certificate what does the ORT stand for ? Nosey papbouv.

That's a good question Papbouv I'm not 100% sure on that. If so, Hallie will be Hallie CD, RN, B, CGC, ORT. I will ask in class Monday. ORT stands for Odor Recognition Test.
