When I had Patches at the vets for her shots and dental I felt a BB under the skin had the vet feel it he wondered how i found the little lump in the first place.I told him I pay attention to my dogs he said if it got bigger let him know well I think it is getting bigger but not sure. Its by her rib cage on the side ??? I just spent $800.00 on both dogs so need for it to go away or not get bigger anyway.Any loose rays Patches needs.

How scary!!  Bandit had a bb sized tumor under his skin a few year ago and we were told it was a fatty tumor. We checked it for a few weeks and it eventually went away.  I suggest marking the area with a sharpie so you can track if its growing or attaching on to anything.   Sending lots of rays for Patches!!   :comfort:

Your mind can make a mountain out of a mole hill for sure. It's good you aren't sure, means if there is any change it's small. Keep us posted!

When do Dachshunds get ole lady lumps patches is my first Dachshund she will turn 5 years old January 16,2012 did not think that was old since she is a 13.6 # dog ? Thanks for the information.

That is a bit young for lipomas. Hallie got her first sign of one at about 9. But she has always gotten different cysts from a younger age on. (in fact come to think of it those seem to have slowed down haven't seen a new one in a while). She also gets plugged hair follicles sometimes, which makes a small hardish lump, she's had 2 between her pads (both taken off) and one on her tum tum. They are very small though. She also has had a cyst about the size of tiny pebble under her skin on her throat since she was about 8 or 9. And another very small lump on her shoulder that is different than the others but has been checked and no change in about 4 years.

She has 3 lipomas, small one above her tail (hard to find), one just under her sternum and a larger one behind her ribs on her left side. Plus has had 2 melanomas removed but thankfully (and surprisingly to me) melanomas aren't always malignant and hers weren't!

Thanks for the information very helpful I just keeping an eye on the lump today it seemed the same size as it has been ?

My guess is a lipoma.  5 does seem early, but not unprecedented.  I think Max-angel had one develop when he was six or seven.    If it is not growing aggressively, I'd leave it alone.   I used to measure the lipomas and keep record of it.   Eventually, Max had so many lipomas we used to call him "Grandpa Lumpy".
