Duncan started limping and lifting a front paw tonight.  When I checked I could see there is what appears to be a tonail in the deep trough between his pads on the left front paw.  I am fairly certain it is pine tar with a chunk of something firmly stuck.  I googled and found that olive oil is the recommended home remedy to remove pine "tar" from an animal's fur (I have 4 60' white pine trees).  I spent 20 minutes massaging olive oil into Duncan's paw cavity with no success.  Does anyone have other suggestions?
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

May have to bite the bullet and go to the vet I was going to suggest baby oil or peanut butter but i would think the olive oil would have removed it. They say peanut butter works really good to get gum out of hair kids & dogs. ? Good Luck, let us know what happens,we care Rays & Hugs.

Probably the vet would be the safest.  We have a juniper tree (I think that's what it is) that is a sap monster but fortunately, we've been able to pick out the sap when Miss steps in it.  I remember when we were kids and went to the beach in the late '60s in Goleta, CA.  We'd always get lots of tar on us as there had been a big oil spill back then.  Mom used paint thinner to get it of of us.  Probably not the best recommendation but it work and we're alive to tell the story.

The olive oil apparently worked.  When I checked Duncan's paw Monday night the additional "claw" had disappeared.
