Sarge and Duggie here.......we gots to meet Reagan today.  We like her!

The kids came out today and Sarge and Duggie got to meet Reagan.  Sarge at 12 1/2 years old....could care less.  He totally ignored her and slept the afternoon away.  Duggie, on the other hand, is enchanted with her.  He was very gentle with her when it came to looking at her....he licked her feeties and when I was holding Reagan, he layed gently next to me or on the floor right next to my feet or Cassie's feet, if she was holding/feeding Reagan.  When he wants to sit next to us, he asks by sitting up and looking at us...never just comes up....he asks permission to do so.  He watched Reagan with gentleness....if she fussed, he would go and sit at your feet and give you the look of you need to take care of her.  I see Duggie being her "protector" and ensuring that she is taken care of....in a very gentle way.  When they left, he went all over the house looking for her.  He went into her room, gazed at the bed looking for her, looked out the window, he was missing her.  I told Dave that next time when she leaves, we need to make a point to say to Duggie and Sarge that Reagan is going bye-bye and she'll see him later.  It took about an hour and a half for him to realize that she was gone and we were hiding her!  Dave and I kept telling him that Reagan went home with her Mom and Dad.   Meanwhile, Sarge is looking at Duggie, like what's your problem??  Sarge has no interest in Reagan.  Neither one minded that their Mom was holding Reagan.  Dee

way back when we got Emma Amy Callaghan the breeder said that one family gathering Emma's mum had disappeared they found her lying next to her baby grandson on the bed asleep. He was hers for all her life Amy said no one got near him if she did not allow it.

That is just great. Makes you wonder if one of Duggie's previous owners had a baby in the house. I always love it when babies have a dog as their protector. There is no greater bond. Did Cassie get the job that starts next week?

Teresa, Cassie did get the job and she actually starts today!  She has orientation/meetings today and then needs to set up her classroom.  So, Miss Reagan will be with us beginning today.  For the first few days, I will meet Cassie at the school and we will pick Reagan up there....until the routine and timing is going smooth.  Cassie has a morning kindegarten class so Reagan will be with us everyday from 7:30 to about 1:00.  Cassie will pick her up after class.  Cassie intereviewed for the job yesterday morning and by 1:30, the school called and offered her the job.  She is going through some mixed emotions right now....excited to get a permanent job in the field she loves and has a fierce passion for (teaching) and leaving Reagan so soon.

Duggie is checking everyday in Reagan's room....looking for her.  I don't know if he was around babies in his previous home.  When we adopted him, we were told that an older lady had him and that she was going into a nursing care facility so had to give him up for adoption.  He is so sensitive, though, that maybe he picks up that she needs to be care for.  It has been interesting watching his actions......he is so concerned to be sure that she is taken care of.

What a blessing that you and Dave are there for them !!!!  You can always take Reagan up to the school to "bizit" mom!    Ohhhh, a lesson here - take Reagan and Duggie and teach the kids how easy it easy to be gentle with babies AND doggies !!!

Duggie clearly realizes the baby is something significant.  It could also be Reagan's "scent" is close to yours, so he considers her part of the pack.   Rudy-angel used to always gravitate to my father, even though my father does not like dogs.   Somehow, Rudy made the connection between my Dad and myself.  Likewise, when Jessica was born, he was very protective of her.

When the Zs came into our life, Jessica was already 3 years old.  It took a while for the Zs and Jessica to adjust to each other.  Now the Zs are both loyal protectors and occasional friend / playtoy.

Love hearing all about the great adventures of Sarge and Duggie.  I know you will love having your grandbaby around, and with Duggie's help, you've got it made!!!
Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

That will really be perfect working hours, even though it will be hard to leave her at first. It also makes it tough since she wasn't home from the very beginning, so Cassie is probably just starting to feel she is getting into a routine. You and Dave will love having time with Reagan and also time for yourselves each day. A perfect balance.
I just realized we never saw pictures of Reagan's Hungry Caterpillar room when it was finished. Any chance of that happening?
