I know its been over 8 months since he died but i just found this site a day ago. Lucky was not a doxie but hie lived in my house for 2 years and decided he was one. Lucky was 2 when i adopted him from my local humain society. He had been severly abused causing him to be overly agressive in any situation and over everything. I worked there and thought after what he had been through he deserved to have asecond chance at a normal life. I brought him home against everyones best advice. I worked very very very hard with him. He slowly learned to trust. He went one to get his canine good citizen award and his therapy dog certification. He even became a certified service dog for me. this is all within the first year of me having him. He worked with me as my service for just about one year when the unthinkable happened. we were exiting the mall when a 16 year old new driver(it was his first day with his license) came out of no where going at least 30mph. lucky pushed his body against mine knocking me out of the way of the speeding car at the expence of his life. he was struck so hard he was thrown 7 feet and then was run over which killed him instantly. The mall thank god had security cameras in the parking lot and it captured the whole thing even the cars license plate. we pressed charges against the teenager. He was charged of destruction and death of a service dog, 2 counts of felony animal crulity, leaving the scean of a crime, and hit and run charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail and ordered to pay 20,000 in fines.

you have no idea how hard it is to lose a service dog especially after putting so much time and effort into taking him from what he was and turning him into wate i made him to be. it was the worst feeling you could ever feel. I pray you never feel that kind of pain
