Wnated to ask for a few rays and prayers. Randy and I were in a wreck on Saturday evening. I was in ICU until Tuesday night and still in the hospital until today for a liver laceration. Randy is okay, but sore and bruised. We were hit by someone who had two open containers in his car and also drug paraphenalia. He was probably driving about 50 miles and hour or more when he hit us and I still don't remember anything about the wreck. Randy has an appointment in the morning with an attorney to see what we can do. Since we were pulling out of a Walgreens onto the main road, Randy was originally charged with Failure to Yield. That will be changed later in traffic court or dropped, but still will be having a lot to deal with as far as insurance in concerned. I don't think our company will really want to pay to repair the car of someone who was DUI.
The most important thing is that we are both still alive and I'm on the mend. The first thing Schatzi did is get under the covers next to me for her snuggles! Too bad I couldn't have her at the hospital!

Teresa,

I hope you and Randy are back on your feet soon. What an awful thing to have happen, and the dealing with the legal end of it won't be a picnic. Take care.

Good luck with the legal end of things.  That's not going to be fun.

Thank you all for the rays and prayers. I got through last night okay, but have to admit it was a long one. There are only so many pillows in the house
Schatzi has been a wonderful companion and bodywarmer, I just have to keep her from wanting to walk across me all the time. Even at 9 lbs, those paws hurt!
The oddest thing about this accident, is we had just dropped off a prescription at Walgreens and then were headed to PetSmart to get Schatzi a Bobo for her second birthday. I told Randy he still needs to go and get Bobo, just so we can feel like we accomplished one mission, finally.

I'm sure you'll heal much faster now that you're home and have Schatzi to snuggle you!  I'm so glad it wasn't any worse than it was.

It's been two weeks now since the wreck and even though I'm still moving slowly, I'm getting better. I just can't believe how much I can sleep right now. At least the doctor decided to give me a dose of Procrit before I left the hospital which brought my hemoglobin back up quickly. By the time the internal bleeding from the liver stopped I had lost over a third of my blood volume. Guess they does explain the sleepiness!
We were able to talk with our insurance agent this week and found out that even though we were only carrying liability on the truck, there is coverage on me since I was a passenger. We were also able to give them the information about the driver who hit us and his past history of speeding tickets and drug possession that we had found out about online. Imagine his surprise when he showed up yesterday to pick up his check for the damage to his vehicle and was told his case was "in review". They had planned to settle everything with him at first, but now are thinking twice about it.
Thanks again for all the prayers and rays. I know that is why I have done so well and didn't end up in worse shape than I was. I also know that is the reason that Randy came okay. He is still a little sore, but not too bad considering the car hit on his side.

Please consider checking with a lawyer before you settle with your insurance company.  I was seriously injured in a auto accident a couple of years ago. I was hit by a legally insured BUT very underinsured motorist.  Her insurance paid only $25,000 on a $64,000 hospital bill. My insurance company had a "fair" check all ready ......... but after I hired a lawyer they paid 3 times as much.  Just a thought.

I would definitely consult a lawyer before settling with the insurance company.  I have two friends that are lawyers and when I was in a little fender bender they gave me advice.  One of the things they said was don't sign anything don't settle anything without talking to one of us.

We are planning to talk with a lawyer, also. Randy has already talked with him once. In this case we almost have no choice since in SC anyone who is taken to a hospital that may be suspected of DUI has the "right" to refuse the blood test for it. If the driver had been taken to the law enforcement center, that would not have been the case. Because of HIPPA laws, his bloodwork that was drawn automatically cannot be used. The police office could have gotten a judge's order, but on a Saturday evening, it would have been too many hours past the time of the accident before the blood would have been drawn and the results wouldn't have been accurate. We do have the paramedics as witnesses and the emergency room doctor who he told that he was drinking. Because my injury involves the liver, it will be another reason to not rush in to anything when deciding the settlement. We have to make sure that there will be no long term damage first. Luckily, Randy had a supplemental medical policy that will pay us 500 dollars per day I was in ICU which will definitely come in handy right now, along with money for each of us for accident coverage. He never knew when he took it out that it would pay off eventually. It's something you hope that you never have to use, but we are just glad that he has it.

I just saw this too Teresa. How terrible! You just can't seem to get a break. But thank goodness you are both OK, I feel awful for you though I am sure this is no picnic. You are certainly in my thoughts and prayers too.
