On Sunday August 1st, after 11 wonderful years, with us, sweet little Skeeter had to go to the Rainbow Bridge.  She was almost 15 years old, and as David C. says she had been riding the senior roller coaster for the last couple of years starting with the diagnosis of a significant heart murmur.  She was always a little tough girl but the last year was pretty hard on her, On New Year's Eve she injured her eye in a scuffle with Longfellow. She recovered from that then suffered a small stroke in March.  Again she made an amazing recovery but she was never quite her self.  She was having increasing symptoms of heart disease, and a trip to the vet for a bladder infection last week showed the condition was worsening.  On Sunday she fainted after a coughing spell, and seemed to be in distress so we went to the emergency vet who told us she was heading for congestive heart failure and her lungs were filling with fluid.  At that point Jeri and I made that most difficult decision to help her to the Bridge before she really began to suffer.  We were with her until she left as I promised her when she came to live with us.  For those of you who knew her, you know she was daddy's girl and was my constant companion and shadow almost from day one (and the rescue group told us she didn't seem to like men!??!).  I called her my little right wing girl because she always had to be on my right side whether in bed, walking, even when on my lap she would perch on my right leg.  She and Jeri had more of a mutual co-existence, as far as Skeeter was concerned SHE was my mate!.  When Jeri would come by, Skeetie would puff up, growl at her, then give her a kiss when she bent down. My lap is awfully empty now and l miss my girl very much.  Even with her two brothers the house seems a bit empty.  Jeri and I don't post here much because of working five jobs between us but I check on you guys from time to time and offer up prayers and rays when needed.  Please send a couple our way to heal our hearts.  I know Skeetie is up with our little pack in heaven with Leopold and Archie angles.  I know if someday I get there, Skeeter will be the first one to greet me.
Godspeed little girl, sleep well.

Oh Skeeter!  I remember your sweet darling, Kevin and Jeri.  She was soooooo loved and now I cry for your loss.  You'll recall grand memories after the grief fades, you certainly will.  Thanks for coming on in and posting your sad loss so that your WW family can hold you in their hearts for a bit.

Skeeter joins a wonderful herd at the Bridge.  You did the right thing for her, as hard as it hurts.  I hope the good times soon fill your hearts.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Aww, guys, that is so sad.  But now Skeeter is sweetly at rest.  She had a great set of loving hu-parents and was well loved and cared for.  I wish you peace as you go through this process; I know how hard this is, but you made the right decision.

A heartbreaking decision, but the last gift you could give her. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Awwww...we're so sorry to hear about Skeeter.   It's hard to believe it's been 11 years.   I remember Skeeter riding in the back of your Forester at one of our Bow Wows...and baring her teeth when we got too close!    She was one of the few dachshunds Rudy-angel would not mess with!   And, then, of course, was her leather motorcycle outfit.  Talk about an appropriate fit!   We're glad that we had the opportunity to meet her in person.

It's always hard to let go, but it clearly was Skeeter's time.  She'll be just fine with Poldie and Archie, not to mention a whole herd of WW dachshunds, including my own Rudy & Max.    We hope the pain of her loss will soon fade so that only the happy memories remain.

Thank you all for the loving thoughts you sent our way.  It's been hard living without her, but we comfort ourselves knowing that the good people here care and understand.  Thank you.

Yesterday at Petsmart was a couple with a sweet, beautiful black and tan boy named Charlie.  I was remarking on him, and when I mentioned we recently lost our black and tan smoothie, Charlie, who was being held my his mom, reached over and gave me a gentle kiss.  It was such a kind and loving thing to do, and he comforted me more than words can say.
