I'm having a serious problem with three of my dachshunds, barking.  Well, it doesn't really bother me -- just bothered a neightbor enought that he/she called the police!  Why do people have to be like that?  We've lived in our neighborhood almost 3 years,  just knock on the door and talk to us!  I think part of the problem is a neighbor across the street is having some serious construction work done and I left the dogs out for a few hours Tuesday b/c it was a gorgeous day.  We do have a privacy fence, but the construction was VERY loud.

What has worked for you with bark control?  I got one of those bark control collars that sprays lemon stuff when the dog barks.  Put it on Baxter, (the red guy) -- because he's the leader of the group.  I am already seeing a HUGE difference.  He HATES the spray.  Tucks his tail between his legs and runs over to me if it goes off.  He's gotten it figured out pretty fast, though.  He was chasing the boxer puppy around and just moving his lips like he was barking, but not making a sound!  So funny! :2funny:  Seem that if he's not starting things, the others don't bark as much.  I don't want to do a shock collar, but the other two barkers are too small for the lemon spray.  And the lady at the store said that the one that emits sound probably would work with mulitple dogs, because it goes off if another dog barks, so that might just make the problem worse.

I did also type up a letter to the neighbors with lots of contact numbers, so they don't have to call the cops -- they can call us.  I knocked on doors, and the ones I talked to, couldn't believe somebody called the cops.  They said they'd let me know if they figured out who it was!  So, at least we're getting people on our "side!"

The problem is, you can't have more than 3 dogs in our city.  So, if the barking continues and we get more than a "warning" from the cops, we would have to get rid of two dogs b/c we are breaking the law.  My husband and I have no kids, just our doggies, so we're very serious about stopping the barking, so it won't be an issue.  And being sure we're on good terms with the neighbors.  :thumb:

I don't what to tell you about the barking that will help but I would apply for a kennel license asap. I would join a rescue group if needed to help me get it. Just me thoughts!

My two bark ANY time there is any kind of construction around and no amount of me telling them to hush, bringing them in the house, or using the other methods (squirting water, shaking coins in a can) will get them to stop.  I always worry that mine bark during the day when I am gone.....so far no one has said anything !!!  I sure hope that my neighbors come to me first.....

Sorry you are dealing with an unknown person - you have covered a lot of bases by one on one's with the neighbors and the letters.  I would hope that person would at least try to talk to you first  :dontknow:

I love the picture of your kids - how many do all of us have - of us looking down and them looking up !!!!

I tried the collar that emits a sound sound when they bark - it didn't help.  I think Patty may have tried it too.  It may work for the first bit - but then they get used to it and bark anyway.

I just try to work with mine when I hear it - and HOPE  :xfinger: they don't bark too much when I am gone !!!!

Good luck - let us know !

What's silly is one of our doxies bark at ANYTHING.  I literally mean ANYTHING.  It drives me nuts  because he will bark at even people he knows.  The most annoying thing is that he'll bark at people in the middle of the night..bark at doors closing..bark when we wake him up...bark when someone talks loudly..it just never ends...I find it really hard to have people come up to me without them feeling quite scared due to this barking.  I know he's not barking because he feels threaten..it's more like he thinks it's fun...I know doxies are natural barkers, but this can't be normal!!  :dontknow:

Our Libby is the same way, everything makes her bark, and once she barks, the rest have to help her.  There is a boxer that lives next door and Libby starts barking as soon as she goes out the back door all the way to the fence, just in case he is there, to let him know she is coming.  We are still trying to figure out how to stop her barking.

I'm definitely on the same page as everyone else!  Sometimes the barking gets so crazy inside, that I put them out in the yard and let the neighbors deal with it for a while.

I always thought that if it was during the day or early evening, that it shouldn't be that much of a nuisance.  They aren't allowed to bark outside before 10 am or after 9 pm.  If they do, they have to come in.

I thought about getting some sort of collar for Berman and Lucy, but then I feel bad about not letting them use their voices.  We haven't had any complaints yet, but I think we catch them before they become too annoying.
