It was a hard decision, but you all know she just wasn't herself.
Thank you everyone for all your support and love.  She had a terrific life here with us. Last night we had a little run around in the yard and for supper she got eggies and tomatoes, and carrots, and green beans...

Here are some pictures of Loki just bein' Loki.

Leslie,

I'm so sorry, but sometimes it is for the best.  Now she is at the Bridge annoying the heck out of my boys.  You did the right thing.

Leslie, Sometimes the decisions we have to make are the hardest ones but we know in our hearts that it was the right decision.  Loki was loved by all and she knew that she was loved by all.  You are all in our prayers and thoughts.  God-Speed, Loki-Angel......Hugs to you all.

I'm so sorry to hear about Loki!!!   You did the right thing by letting her go though.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sitting here crying for you. IMHO...all our babies should die peacefully in there sleep, few actually get that luxury. That means we have to step up and make the decision in the last great act of compassion...it's an act of Love. They don't deserve to suffer, you put a stop to it.

Roberta

Love and hugs, it must have been a hard decision but she will be at peace. Loki will be in good company up there.

I'm so sorry, Leslie. My heart is breaking for you, but you did the best, most loving thing you could ever have done for her in letting her go to be herself again at the Bridge. She is now Loki-angel, wholly herself again, and watching over you and all of the Board from above.  :comfort:

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.   Making the decision for a final act of kindness is never easy.  Whatever you do, do not doubt yourself.   It is too easy to put the focus on how Loki died rather than how she lived.   Dying, and the events leading up to it, is only a fraction of their lives, even less than the puppy phase in most cases.

We hope the pain of her loss will soon fade so that only the happy memories remain.

Feel your pain it is hard to do but at least we have that option for our Fur Kids it is very hard to deal with a dog with puppy Alzheimer's so sad to see them not know you,or what they are doing.Very Sorry for your great loss may Loki be running and playing till you meet again one day.Hugs to you & family.

Merion

So sorry to hear about Loki.  I know how hard it is to have a dog with the cognative disorder.
Since she didn't seem to know you she was worse than mine have been so far.
We know you did the right thing for her even though your heart is breaking.  It is so hard to make that decision.
Sending HHHHHHH's  :comfort: & PPPPPPPP's  to you all.
Have a blast with your old friends Loki!!!!!!

Those are CLASSIC Loki pictures, for sure.

Dear Leslie,

What an awful decision this was for you to make.  A serious decision you have made with knowledge and wisdom.  Some times the BEST thing is in no way the EASIEST thing.  You have made a brave choice for our dear Loki and I laud you for this.

Please feel over the internet the waves of my peace and goodwill to you.  My sympathy and condolences.  May the memory of our Loki live with you.  The Mulberries that fall will now need to be raked.  The 'maters gathered and brought to the table and all the other yummy garden delicacies loved by our Loki Dawg will now be eaten with relish by the hoomans in her memory.

Bless you my friend.  You have ended her pain.

My warmest thoughts to you,
Sandi

Leslie - I am so sorry for your loss.  Loki always lived up to her name with the mischief making.  I know we will all miss hearing Loki stories.  I love the pictures.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Leslie: I am so sorry for your loss. These decisions are tuff but they must be done.

I am so sorry to read this. I know how lost you must be feeling right now. We had to make this same decision a six years ago with our first bulldog who had dementia and it was one of the hardest ones to make. It is tough because they still seem fairly healthy, even though you know in your heart that their mind is not.
Remember the good times and imagine the fun she must be having with the others that have gone before her from our group here at Rainbow Bridge.

While Loki's crossing is not a surprise, it still hurts to read this.  We have watched and laughed at the antics of each other's dogs for so many years.  It's been a pleasure to know Loki and I know that your love for her and her's for you will endure.

Thank you all for your kind and loving words.  We took a long weekend and took Zuzu with us--she's really been "okay" so far.  I gave her some anti-anxiety meds for the long drive and she did very well. (car rides freak her out a bit because she always ends up the vet!) At our friend's house she very polite and sat down nicely next the food on the picnic blanket.  No complaints, no begging, no stealth stealing--because she is a GOOD girl!!!

Last night while we were unpacking, I kinda forgot what I was doing and put Zuzu's food dish in Loki's old spot. (DH had run out for a quick errand) and Zuzu was kinda confused and started howling. (Lawd that is pitiful.)  I think the penny dropped. I explained to her that sissy was not coming back and that she just fell asleep and we are all sad.  I swear she understood.  She got to sleep in the big bed with us while we were away so I don't know HOW I'm gonna get her back into her crate at night.

On Friday we got all the baby gates out of the house. Co-incidentally, we had started in the beginning of May to do a bit of a living room redecorating, so we spent the whole day putting everything back in order, washing floors and carpets and moving furniture.  The change made us feel better but may have also added to Zuzu's "confusion" plus the trip and all.

It was very quiet getting ready for work this morning.  :sad7:

Oh, Leslie, I am so sorry. She had a wonderful life with you and you were there for her, clear up to the end. They depend on us and you did not let her down. We all know that when we let them in our homes and hearts, this day will come but it does not make it any easier. The days we DO have with them are worth all the pain you are going through now. I will be praying and sending rays that you will get to where you remember Loki with smiles instead of tears. The pictures are sooooo cute! You can see her personality come through in them. Godspeed, little Loki.

So sorry to hear of your loss.  Loki was one of the best--and will remain in your heart forever. Sincerest condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to your Loki.  I know you did what was right for her even though it's one of the hardest things to do. She will be missed.  Know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

There's little I can add to what everyone had already said.  The Zu-ster will help ease the loss and you all will remember the sunny days with Loki.

There's a long post on the General Writings.  It's an essay by James E. Miller and it's on the post "Just a question."  I know it will help to give you some perspective.

Oh my goodness-I haven't been by in awhile, and it's been a very bad few weeks for the wiener writings family.   Condolences to you on your loss.  Loki was very much loved, I know.

Leslie,
I am so terribly sorry to read this.  I haven't been to the board in awhile and this reminds me why it is so important to keep up with our dachsund family.  Loki was one of the first puppers that I fell in love with on this board.  She was one of the reasons I fell head over heels for this breed.  My heart aches for you.  Hang in there and know that my prayers are with you.
