Dee Dee and Hallie

Hallie could use some rays, we're going to the vet tomorrow for a full work up, she has been having tummy issues again for about 2 weeks eating grass, loose stools, some vomiting, and just overall lethargic without a lot of "spark". She's also lost a pound but not sure how long it took her to lose that pound, I haven't weighed her in a while and I only did now because she was feeling thinner to me. I am worried sick of course and also of course, I have been sick with my stupid stomach thing myself which doesn't help. We're getting in a lot of bed time but really behind in work and also behind in fun together, I want my happy puppy back. Hopefully we can just change diet or something for a simple fix.  :xfinger: We'd appreciate any spare rays and prayers for a good vet visit tomorrow.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Thanks you guys, I have been waiting all day for the vet to call or email (which he still might) with her lab results but nothing yet. He took blood, and I brought in stool and urine, so far all we know is she doesn't have giardia or worms including heartworm. (I did ask about heartworm in this area, this vet, our regular vet and another vet we went to last week for her allergy shot since our regular vet wasn't in, and all 3 have said there are no confirmed cases of heartworm here other than dogs that have travelled to or from heartworm areas, so they say no treatment necessary). Anyway on her tummy we'll know more when the tests come back but he's hoping it is "fiber deficient mild colitis", he said it's common in older, especially small dogs and his own elderly lab was having tummy problems, and the prescription food he put him on (WD) did wonders for him. So we're hoping that's all it is!!!!

Her heart and lungs sounded fine and her temp is fine, he palpated her tummy and all seemed fine. She had lost a little more weight but when I got to thinking about it, I do feed her a fair amount during the day when I eat, (her own food mostly) and I've been sick so hadn't been eating and that missed food could have added up with her.

I will be giving her pepcid AC (which stands for "adorable canine" of course) on a trial basis (anyone give this to their pups before?) and I'm switching her over to her new food now. He said to not let her eat grass when she is feeling sick (or even if she's not) he said that is bad for them, I didn't know that.

She also has a little bit of tartar on her left side and her gums are a little swollen, the right side is fine (I scrape them, floss and brush them) so that could mean sensitive teeth on the left side. I will scrape off that bit of tartar and keep an eye on it. She has a big soft fuzzy shaved spot now on her throat where they drained all her blood out (according to her) she was very brave about it though.

We were at a photo shoot last night and at one point she was running around barking at us and being silly I asked her if she was the sick little dog I just spent $400 at the vet on it was great to see her perked up.

So we are both waiting on lab results now we'll see whose"vet" calls first!  :angel4: Thanks for the rays it's always scary when we don't know just what is going on with our kids.

Thanks for the up date you may be right about the $400.00 vet trip perking them up, seems like when they are sick the trip to the vet is a day or too later they get to the vet they are fine.Rays & Hugs will not hurt either until you hear from your vet.

Delia and girls

Thanks for the update. I should have looked here before I emailed you. Disregard my email. Keep us updated, OK?

Kari

Hi Dee Dee! I've never given Penny Pepcid, but Tucker gets it twice a day for acid reflux....yes...my cat has acid reflux!

That would be great if all we had to do was pay a vet and our kids would perk up!  :thumb:
Delia I just sent you an email!
Goodness Kari I didn't even know animals could get acid reflux! Poor Tucker. Does it really help him? Are there any long term things you worry about?

I just got an email from the vet, all her levels were fine! Other than a few but he said he wasn't concerned about those. The main ones were good. So that's great, hopefully this new food we are switching her too will be all that is needed.

I am relieved! It gets harder as they get older to read symptoms, are they lethargic or just tired out, etc. The vet is not our regular one because he is farther away from us but he's very thorough (and expensive!) but at her age, he wants to see her every 6 months to keep on top of any age related changes. Ugh how did that happen so fast she was a puppy just last week!  :angel4:

Thanks for the rays and prayers they worked!
