Took Ozzy in for a teeth cleaning, and they had to pull 11 teeth.  Vet believes that was the cause of Ozzy's bad breath.  Everyone agrees his breath is better.  Ozzy also looks like he feels a lot better; has returned to puppy playfulness.

I still feel bad about it - wondering if there was anything I could have done to prevent this.  It is obvious now that Ozzy was in some pain and not feeling well.  I hate the idea that I could have caused him pain.

Don't feel badI had Eddie's teeth cleaned once and a month or so later I saw the tartar was already coming back.  I asked the vet and he told me that some dogs have more bacteria in their mouths and as a result the tartar growsmore quickly, even before you notice it.  Sam was bad with his teeth, but he chewed on blankets and such and would get fiber embedded in his teeth and wouldn't let anyone remove itunless he was knocked out.  My vet said to feed them carrots and the chewing would help with the build up on their teeth.

Danni here:  All I get for trets are stupid baby carrots while the cats get cheese and sliced turkey.  Mom says I need to keep my teef clean because she can't afford braces for me.

Sometimes they are just so stoic - it is hard to tell they are hurting.  Glad they are out and he is feeling better !!!!  My Brandy's teeth are like Marcia's Eddie...SOOOO hard to keep clean... 'tis an on going battle with all of mine !

Patches had her teeth cleaned at the vets last month so far I have brushed them every night still getting dents in my fingers from her biting my fingers when I'm trying to do those back teeth. She does not bite being mean she is trying to bite on the tooth brush and my fingers are trying to hold her moth open she has tight lips so hard to get to the back ones.
I have been using PetsLife 3 X a week, dog tooth paste on all the other nights. Saw something on a poster at one of our Pet stores its a spray says you just spray the teeth no more dentist vet visits??? Dee Dee and some one were talking about it in one post. Now can't remember the name of it.Can some one help me out with the name know its pretty pricey though but considering the vet cleaning was $177.00 maybe not if it works, think the stuff cost a little more than the Pets Life it was $30.00 + tax.Papbouv

Drs. Foster and Smith sells the spray you are talking about.  They have many different tooth care products. Porky has terrible teeth despite my brushing them every day.  We use the stuff you add to the water, the spray, and then brush before bed every night.   It seems to make a slight difference, but Porky's teeth problems are due to his excessive licking.  Once we get the licking under control his teeth will get better.

I'm sorry to hear about Ozzy's teeth.  Don't blame yourself though. Some of them just have bad teeth.   Just be dilligent on cleaning them from now on and he should be just fine.   The spray is really easy for dogs that won't accept tooth brushing.  Good luck!!

Poor Ozzy but it's great he feels so much better. Don't blame yourself it's so hard to tell if their teeth hurt unless it's something major. How did your vet know the teeth needed pulling, do you know? Were they loose or ??? I often suspect Hallie's teeth bother her too but my vet says you can't tell, but there has to be a way!
Hugs to Ozzy  it's so hard to keep those little pearlies sparkling.
