So I was at the end of my leash with Finnegans lack of house breaking. He was STILL showing absolutly NO signs of wanting to pee outside. And it seems like he doesnt want to hold it. He pees as soon as he has to go, so we have these tiny little pee spots all over. If we are on it and take him out every hour and right after he eats/drinks ect things were fine. But thats super aggravating because we live in a condo. So its find shoes, put on Fins gear, find poopie bags, get keys, go down two flights of stairs, cross the street and go up the road. Every hour? COME ON!! And he doesnt even go everytime!!!!

So i decided to make my little sprinkles a belly band. My boyfriend, bless his heart, picked out blue skull fabric for my little mans new outfit. And i set to work.

And lo and behold...

IT WORKS!!!!

This is amazing! Finnegan is wearing the band no problem. And we are still mostly having to kind of guess when he should need to go out but he is getting a bit better at letting us know when its time. Its been a week and NO accidents!! Well there was one little one when i had food posioning and didnt take him out close enough to bed but thats not hid fault.

So if anyone is having issues and hasnt tried the bellyband thing yet you HAVE to jump on this bandwagon.

Have you tried this since you live in a Condo get spare clothing, shoes a key put them right by the door keep them there and no where else. You use to take Finnegan outside to do his business put in a box or shelf keep this there until he is reliably house trained. Then since he is not asking to go on his own he may not know to ask not understanding what you want of him. Hang a bell on the door you use to go out to take him outside, you ring it at first say lets go potty or lets go hurry up what ever words you want to use for potty. In a few weeks he should get the idea if not just keep doing it one day he will ring the bell.Yes they do sometimes ring the bell just to go outside but usually it is a short phase they go though do not say anything about it it will work it self out. Also do you ask Finnegan if he wants to go out ? I talk to my dogs Patches whines, growl talks even barks she use to ring the bell but prefers her own method of asking.Buddy on the other hand only asks if in my bedroom at night other times I ask him he runs to the door.
When my old Papillon was in diapers when she was very old it helps to wipe them down with baby wipes with the aloe in them every time you remove the diaper/belly band it is easy for them to get urine burns.I have found that the Dachshund is a breed very hard to house break takes patience, diligent cleaning with one of the pet products made for cleaning up urine & feces, and perseverance on the owners part every accident is the owners fault not the dogs every accident will set you back on going forward with a full house trained dog.
Crates are your best friend also if you tether the dog to you you can get them out faster also they can not sneak off to do their business else where in the house.Dogs do not know they are not suppose to use the inside as a bathroom read Culture Clash very good read about house breaking in it. Good Luck I did write a good article about house training but not sure if it is still on the forum some where or not if interested I will send it to you by e-mail.
