Interesting piece of news a Boxer dog in Oologah Oklahoma killed a skunk the skunk had rabies the Boxer in in Quarantine for six months at the vets. The vet was on the TV said the Boxer was not given his Rabies shots so the vet would give the Boxer a set of three Rabies shots for the next three months, and the Boxer had to be under Quarantine for the other three months and the Boxer should be fine. Did not know they could cure Rabies like that in dogs know they have the shots for people but not sure what is in them.Hope it works for the dog nice looking Boxer.
The vet also said all skunks have rabies or carry rabies they have learned how to live with it I never heard that before.

Wow!  Years ago, my sister and I went with parents to stay at a hotel that they had managed while my father was getting his Bachelor of Science in Vocational Agriculture, while he was attending a conference.  As to the managers at that time, the husband was in a veterinary science program, and they had several unusual, normally wild, animals for pets.  One was a skunk named Pepe LePew, who had been "deodorized".  Pepe had had a complete regimen of whatever would make him safe around humans.  He was very much like a cat and a real snuggler.  This would have been back in 1967 or 1968.
owned and operated by Mirrim, Lessa, and Torene, also forever by angels Friedrich, Heidi, Gretl, Siglen, Sorcha, Brekke, Rowan, Robinton, and Bastian.

I was surprised on what the vet said about skunks of course maybe that was his opinion but he did say it on TV yes I do know of people having pet skunks so not sure what that would mean for them.Maybe over the years skunks have built up a tolerance to the rabies virus??? I thought any warm blooded animal could get rabies but my neighbor of many years told me squirrels did not get rabies??? She volunteered at a Nature Center for many years so guess she knows what she is talking about  I know if you google the CDC in Georgia they have allot of information on rabies. It has always been scary to me since we live in the city but have a huge Cement factory behind us they have piles & piles of bricks, cement blocks, pipes all kinds of stuff.Plus all kinds of wild critters back there too.Opossum,Fox,mice,Rats,Hawks,Owl,even heard of Coyotes going down our street one morning early.

:dontknow: Squirrels don't get rabies.  Don't ask me!

I'm doing much better with dachshunds and rabbits."

When Zena and I did the bite prevention program with the health dept. on Monday that was one thing that the lady from the dept. said was that squirrels don't carry it.

Pretty interesting, i didn't know that too and just heard about that here. They must have that kind of instinct to carry the rabies and live normally..
