Madderoos Mom

Well, it was fun until the mean ol' papa tooked the possum away.  I (Maddie) got a munch in before that though and I (Bonnie) could hardly believe my eyes.  A teenage possum right there on my doorstep.  I 'bout tumbled down the steps to get to it.  Fun!  Fun!  Fun!   Until the papa took the possum away.

 Bonnie and Maddie

Mommy here.  I got up this morning and opened the back door to let the girls out.  Bonnie shot out the door and literally threw herself down the steps.  Then Maddie followed and started squealing.  I looked to see what the ruckus was about and then I started to squeal.  There was SOMETHING on the step and they were after it.  I got Mark out.  I couldn't see what it was.  Didn't have my glasses on yet.  Sure enough, it was a juvenile possum.  I hollered at Bonnie to get inside and she really truly obeyed.  I can't say that much for Madderoo who was going to town on the little guy.  Mark got outside and snatched Maddie up and was thankful he didn't bring her up with Jr Possum hanging out of her mouth.  The critter was just lying there on the step.

Well we did the usual thing when this happens.  Mark scooped it up and put it in a sack.  Then it moved.  He put it in the trunk of the car and started down for the creek.  By the time he got here, Jr was wiggling and when dumped out of the sack, ambled off towards the brush by the creek.  They must have got him on his underbelly but he didn't seem to notice.  Now it looks like I'll have to be vigilant again before I let them out in the mornings.  Waking up that way is not my idea of starting out the day.

BTW, even though Bonnie hurled herself down the steps, she was none the worse for wear.  Maddie sniffed the yard for 15 minutes looking for her after breakfast snack.

What FUN!

Oh gack! Cooked possum can't taste good, raw possum has to be even worse! I would have freaked out good thing Mark was there to relocate the poor thing. It had to be a sight bigger than Maddie? What a game girl! I'd be in with you and Bonnie.

I wonder why the possum didn't attack back, they can do some damage to critters. I have to watch for the darn raccoons here, not only for the fear of them attacking but coons and possums carry so many ucky diseases.... :cussing:

Sounds like the girls were enjoying it all till the big D (daddy) came and spoiled their fun.  Poor babies.  Better luck next time girls.   :xfinger:
Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.
