I am not sure, but I think my Pwincess had a seizure??  Here is what she did...  I was woke up with slobber dripping down my leg, then she came up out of the covers, fell off the bed, ran around the bed twice befor running into the dining room and collapsing.  I was still sleepy eyed, so I was in shock over all this.  I imediately got out of bed, picked up my little girl and took her back to bed to cuddle her to me, of course I was completely frightened, so all I could do was cry, she also lost control of her bladder while on the bed with me...  She hasn't done this since, it has been a couple weeks, & I can't get her into a vet that knows anything because they are all filled, all the time??  So, I just keep a careful eye on her until then.  Any info on how to keep them calm during this? I am not sure if I did the right thing??  It still frightens me to think of how she looked.  Do they control these with meds?  Thanks to you all..  Maybe keep your fingers crossed that it was a one time thing, if that's possible....              Going to call the vet again, may have to take her to one in Pocatello...  GRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Tara so sorry about Emmy Lou's seizure, they are scary.  Sam used to get some type of a seizure where he's just sit in my lap and shake violently then when it was over he's be himself.  Cleo kitty gets really bad seizures, she just had one the other day, and she will usually fall on the floor, shake violently and then urinate.  With Cleo I have found it is easier to put her on the floor and let the seizure pass, only because she won't fall off the couch if I told her.  I stay near her and keep petting her and talking softly to her the whole time and she then snaps out of it.

Here's the strange thing though a couple of weeks ago I noticed if I crinkled a paper or even tore open a paper bag she would flinch a few times, but then she'd be fine, however now if I see that happening and I haven't done anything I know a seizure is on the way and we are prepared for it.

I hate these things they come on unexpectedly and can disappear for weeks even months at a time.  What worries me the most is that my one cat fluffy had a seizure one day that started just as I cam home from work and I couldn't do anything about it.  The ER kept pumping meds into her and they didn't work so finally I told them to quit and she was sent to the bridge.

Mega rays and prayers headed your way!

Have you been able to find a vet who could check her out soon? Make what notes you can of anything that may have changed in her environment for a few days prior to the episode and write down as much as you can remember of the sequence of events from the time you realized there was a problem until she was recovered. Things that seem inconsequential may speak volumes to a vet. Hopefully there won't be any more episodes, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to just keep a log of her activities and what she's eating until you can see a vet.

Please keep us posted.

Sounds to me like you did the best thing, you probably just want to keep her as calm as possible. We had a dog that would have seizures, she would thump her leg and stick her tounge out really far. She would be so scared. The vet told us to try and get her to concentrate on just us. So i would hug her and get right up close. Sometimes she would growl and i would laugh because even when she was terrifyed Mitzi was not a cuddly dog. But it would always fade right after that, when if we did nothing it could last up to fifteen minutes.

Lots of rays to EmmyLou.  I would keep trying to get into the Vet.  Stomp your foot and yell if you have to.  I can't believe the Vet is putting you off.  Try again, sweetie and try to stay calm.

Poor baby!! That is so hard to watch, I've been there, with humans and animals!    It does sound like a seizure to me.   Talk to her and gently pet her while the seizure is happening and that will help keep her calm.    It is important to know how long they are lasting as well, so you could count the seconds outloud until it stops.  This will do three things, 1. help calm her since she can hear your voice, 2.  Make you feel less helpless and freaked outt, and 3.  Give you information about how long they typically last.

Sometimes they will give you indicators before the seizure happens.   One that I know of is the eyes will start twitching (the actual eyeball).  If you ever see her do this, it can indicate that she has already had a seizure or is going to have one.   Try not to panic, even though it looks very scary!  Take her to a safe place on the floor and gently stroke her fur.   Wait a few minutes and see what happens.

I would call and demand that the vet see your baby as soon as possible.  Seizures come from lots of things, and not all require medication to control them.

I hope this helped some.   :comfort:   We're sending our Nebraska rays to you and EmmyLou!!!

Emmy has had three more seizures since her first last fall...  Last night was the worst one yet, instead of trying to scoot around she jsut wanted to lay on her side while it was going on...  She was also breathing differently this time, and she threw up afterwards..  The vet is doing some bloodwork today at 2...  Cross your fingers for my baby girl, will post when we hear anything....      :xfinger:

Most important is keep a notebook on time the seizure starts, how long it lasts, any other information you think is helpful to the vet I would have a sit in with my dog at the vets until they saw her.Medications can help just depends on what type on seizures they are the sooner you can see the vet less seizures hopefully.Good Luck at the vets.Is there a University  Vet school around ? a ER vet place around it is ridiculous to have to wait until The 11th of May to get in to see the vet for a dog with new seizures.Good Luck with your Fur Kid

Well, the vet started her on some meds (phenpobarbitol), she did some bloodwork which she sent to be tested.....  And, Mrs. Weenie has lost almost a pound since last fall, she weighed in today at 14.1 lbs.  She got to take her first pill tonight with some EZ~Cheese....  She LOVED it!!  lol  We go back to the vet next week so she can check her again and make sure she is doing well on the meds.  This has been a crazy week already...  Last Friday Katelyn walked right into a baseball that Jeremiah threw 46 ft away from her, 4 fractures to the right side of her face...  She had surgery Monday morning to put a plate in, she is pretty swelled right now, but Dr. says that is a good sign and it should go down in a couple days...  The next day at baseball registration, Jeremiah got hit in the eye by a baseball after it bounced out of his mitt, HUGE black eye...  There soon has got to be an end to all this madness....  lol   I have not touched my homework at all until this afternoon because it has been so crazy around here...  But, I am proud to say, that I made the Dean's list for the quarter of Oct.-Dec. and will also make the Dean's list for last quarter Jan-Mar....  That was pretty exciting...  Also, in the midst of everything else, I had my gallbladder removed Dec. 29th.  I wish I could say that I feel better, but I really don't, and I don't want to go back to the Dr., I don't like Dr.'s....  lol  The removal of my gallbladder helped with the pain, but now I feel like I am starving all the time, even after I eat I have hunger pangs...  Hope nothing too big, but I have put on the weight, so now tomorrow night I am off to a Lap-Band seminar to see if that will help....  lol  Well, I will post if there is anymore news on EmmyLou....  I will be glad when she gets used to these meds, she has been sleeping for a couple hours now, and she doesn't appreciate having to get up and go out in the rain to potty...  lol    *hugs to all*
