So I went back to PetSmart Wednesday night and switched out the Playpen of FAIL for a normal metal Ex-Pen...

It worked!  It's wonderful!  VICTORY IS MINE!  Great day in the morning!   Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in all the land!
*does a little dance of joy*

I even had enough money left over from the exchange to buy him a little bed to go in it.  Hooray!  He seems delighted with his new arrangement - exploring his new real estate, "hiding" his rawhides from me, and playing happily with his toys.  I want to get a little sign to hang on the outside of it that says "SCOOTER'S ROOM" or something.  Who knows.  I am just so happy he is happy!

Query: is it safe/advisable to leave him in this instead of his crate during the day?  He's been crated while I work since I got him, so he's used to it.  But if it's okay to leave him out in his new play area, I was thinking "why not?".

Also, we had a pretty positive V-E-T visit yesterday.  The doctor still saw a bit of "infected material" when she expressed his glands but she said no more blood, and gave him another steroid infusion and instructions for me to bring him back in another three weeks.

I'm still on the hunt for a more reasonably-priced accupuncturist...

Yahoodies !!!   Is there room for his crate IN the pen?  To where he might go snuggle in and sleepy during the day?  And you can always get a critter cam and watch him to see what he does

When Loki was paroled we folded the X-pen around her crate, making a little "porch". We did this on a weekend and she seemed okay with it. So that was the protocal M-F.

She was not a happy prisoner.
If she was barking whining and howling too much we put her on the leash, dragged the ex-pen outside, and she commenced to hoovering up Mulberries.

On occasion I would toss a big *ss pillow in there and attempt to nap with her.

good luck.  You will get annoyed and frustrated and so will Scooter. DO NOT RELENT!!!!!!!!!

We use the xpen for Penny when her back flairs up but we make it pretty small so just her bed basically fits in it. Back when she had her surgery and was feeling better we did make it larger enough for her to move around in and we left her in it while we were gone from the house. She is crate trained as well and did pretty good. Good luck!!

He will probably be OK but just to throw a wrench in that statement, let me say ... whenever Ilsa was left in an expen, she climbed out. She had incredible upper body strength for a doxie and would pull herself up the side. When she got to the top, she'd do this swinging motion until she got the momentum, then she'd jump. I should add that she was NOT crate trained. That might make a big difference. It was such a problem with Ilsa that every time I think of a pup being left in an expen, I have to warn people. It certainly would not have crossed my mind without my little escape artist!

I can attest to that.  I even aw Ilsa try to climb a tree in my back yard.  I think if she had thumbs she would have been able to do it.  She was such a sweetie. :angel12:
