My Simon's back.

It has been some time since I've even turned on a computer and been here.For that I'm sorry as this place is such a comfort especially when our little ones are not doing well.

Saturday my Simon just wasn't acting his usual self.He was avoiding stairs and my recliner.So my better half took him to the vet today and considering his breed and history she prescribed Gastrafate(5-6 mils) twice daily to line his stomach and then Carpifen capsules once daily.

Simon is as much a part of my family as anyone.I'm really feeling sick to my stomach over this.

I should be getting a more specific diagnosis tomorrow after the xrays and other tests are fully evaluated.

I hate seeing him like this.It makes me want to cry.

Yes, it definitely sounds like Simon is having a back episode. Please let us know what the Vet says....Simon should be placed on complete crate rest and given a pain medication and an anti-inflammatory.....Please check out the Topic "Woe is Me" and the other new posts regarding Scooter and his back issues. Please check out the website www.dodgerslist.com. Many of us have been though this ..... unfortunately some more than once...we are here for you....please keep us posted as soon as you hear back from the Vet. Bless you and Simon!

I am so sorry to hear your baby is in pain and hope the meds keep him comfortable till you see the vet tomorrow. Rays coming your way and prayers for speedy healing and good news from the vets.

Thankyou everyone for the warm rays.

Vet says no hurniated(spelling?) disc,so this is good news.But there is some swelling.Going to continue with the same two medications for seven days.After that I hope and pray everything is fine.Plus he has his Yorkie friend Benji to keep him company too!

He was in good spirits when I came home from work.He barked and was wiggling his tail.He even gave me kissies when I asked.He can move around and eat but as cheryl said crate rest.When he had the disc issue a few years ago my little buddy was completely incapacitated.

In an aside I can't believe I've allowed my life to be so consumed by things like work that I hadn't even logged in here in months.And on that note because I haven't kept up I send GI-NORMOUS RAYS to Scooter!

Gotta go...time for Simons' medecine.Will keep all posted.

Simon seems like his old self this afternoon.But we still have 4 more days of medicine to do and I'm going to keep him well supervised,I can't take chances with my friend.

I am so relieved to hear that Simon is feeling better....please continue with the crate rest even after the meds are finished....I am sure the crate rest is working

Something very funny happened lastnight.After Jane carried Simon outside to do his duties and carried him back inside he went into and was sleeping in Benji's kennel when I looked.Its such an odd thing to see that I chuckled.

Cheryl,Simon on his own seems to know what's best.On his own he instictivly seems to know to just rest.He won't make the attempt to climb stairs or jump up on furniture (not that I would let him!).He's a very smart boy my Simon!

I just want my friend out in the yard with his toy come the warm weather.

I'm so happy to hear Simon's feeling better - I know too well the sick feeling you described when he was doing poorly. I'm sending rays and prayers your way and hopefully by spring both our boys will be out enjoying themselves in the yard!

It gives me a funny little ache to wonder whether I'll ever be able to take Scooter on the nice long walks he loved again. It's amazing how far-away and wonderful "normal" can look when it's suddenly taken away, isn't it?

In any case, he sounds like a very smart boy! Keep up the resting and healing, Simon!

If its a repeated flare up... you might want to check into the adequan series or get him some accupuncture treatments... My little guy had surgery about a year ago... and he had the adequan series after 8 weeks of crate rest and he also has a small swimming pool which the neuro recommented and he oes in the pool for 10 minutes a day when it is nice...The adequan series realy build up his weak leg...

I have a feeling Scooter will have a nice long walk very soon.Spring's coming...keep yer nose up Scooter!

He was done with meds Sunday so we let Simon out of the crate this weekend.He really appears to be his old self though he instictively knows he can't act like the crazy-man he used to be.We're going to leave him out fulltime while we can see and watch him...no stairs or furniture without being carried.

So far the vet said nothing like that is necessary.Simon had a hurniated disc about 5yrs ago and it was fused and nothing since then until now.The vet has known Simon since he was about 8-9months old and so far her what she has told us to do has apparently been the right thing.

I'm glad your boy is doing well!

Simon started this morning with his barking routine with Benji when I left for work.He hasn't done that since this all started.Its like a game...Benji starts barking when I get ready to leave and Simon joins in for the fun.Soon as I say "By Boys" its over.I truly felt good when I saw Simon participate again

Barking is very good!

His back looks very straight,he's acting normal again!

He still avoids stairs and jumping,but that's a good thing.No chances being taking with my friend...he'll still be put in his crate when we can't watch him and no stairs or recliner without being carried.

Took him to see my dad yesterday as it had been a few weeks.Simon(and my dad!) really seemed to enjoy the visit and Simon really liked the car ride.

Scooter is busy gloating about barking being a good sign, since he's been doing a lot of it lately...

Simon's Yorkie friend Benji is going to the vets tonight at 6:40.Anal glands.....poor little guy is miserable.

Just got back.Benji had to have a cist lanced back there.He did not even slightly enjoy this visit.He feels better already.

Anti-bios and cream for the next 10 days all the while being a cone-head.Simon is not sure what to think about the cone on Benji,will have to take pics of the two when Benji's in slightly better mood.
