 On Friday evening I was laying down in bed reading a book, Guinness sound asleep at my side.  Suddenly I heard "bunny screaming" coming from the living/dining room.  I jumped up and hobbled as fast as I could, calling out the whole time to the bunnies, who have run of the front of the house.  It took no more than 15 seconds for me to reach Winston who was lying on the dining room floor - dead.  I tried CPR (which is not that easy on a rabbit) but to no avail.  Here are the facts:

1) no sign of a fight or struggle.  Bunnies who fight always pull tufts of fur out of each other and leave the scene covered in fur.  The entire floor was clean.

2) no visible injuries.  No cuts, bites, wounds, or palpable broken bones.

3) no sign of any bunny activity on the dining room table - the nearest piece of furniture he could have leapt from.  Had he been up there, that day's mail would have been chewed on, and had he been trying to jump up to it, he would have disturbed the tablecloth.

Aside from missing the bunny with the most personality, I am completely mystified as to what happened.  I know bunnies can be frightened to death somewhat easily, but what scared him?  His own shadow?

The next nearest bunny to him was Woodward Bunstein, who is the group wuss.  No way could he have instigated anything.

So Winston has gone to the Rainbow Bridge - Bunny Division, where puppers like Roscoe-Angel, Cooper-Angel and Rebecca-Angel only get to watch from the other side of the bunny-proof fence.  :angel4: :angel4: :angel4:

We all miss him very much.

Maybe . . . but why all the screaming? I thought bunnies usually only scream when they are being attacked.  He stopped just as I was entering the room.

Thank for your kind thoughts.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Merion

Sorry to hear that you lost Winston. :comfort:
You will all be in our prayers.

Sorry to hear about Winston.

Maybe something internally let loose, like a blood clot or a brain aneurism?  That would give the bunny a sensation like something was attacking him.  We lost Rusty-angel to an embolism in his G.I. tract.  He went from normal to the Bridge in under 3 hours.

Aww...Thats so sad, but, we know that, hopefully, we'll outlive our little fur friends. Sad... but true...most of the time.

Ima dis is Danni boy do I love dem bunnies.  I chase our rabbit every time he/she comes into the yard - I know when that is and beg, stamp my foot and cry for mom to let me out.  Mom says when spring comes I can chase skwerls and keep them away from her flowers, I can't wait.
