We were in Ohio (Trotwood area) on an emergency trip to see my mother who is very ill. While we were at the hospital, Cooper darted out of the house and my nephew was unable to catch him. This was December 23rd. My husband spotted him once in a field by my mother's home but when he called his name Cooper looked back at him and ran into the woods. We have no idea why he ran from him. They are the best of buddies and Coopie adores his daddy. I think he was just cold and scared and didn't recognize him or something. It's been so painful... We looked day and night for a week straight before we had to leave to come back to Minnesota. We've done everything we could think of. Filed reports with the area shelters, put up flyers in a 5 mile radius, talked to everyone we came in contact with, put a lost ad in the local paper, craigslist, facebook, everything we could think of. We miss our little boy so much and we want him home. We are so desperate and our hearts hurt. I wish someone could tell me if he's ok. Cooper is scared of people and I don't know if he would go to anyone but us. He wasn't wearing his collar because he was in the house but he is microchipped. We alerted Home Again Recovery with all of the information and we also mailed out over 80 letters to the Dayton, Ohio local area veterinarians in hopes that maybe someone will bring him in.  It's all so very awful. I pray he's safe and I pray God brings him back to us. Please, if anyone in the Ohio area hears anything about a mini dachsie someone found, please think of us and tell them to take him in to be scanned. Please pray for our Cooper...

Cooper is microchipped.

(Would appreciate putting the word out for anyone in Ohio.  Several rescues have been contacted and are posting this information.  Thanks all !)

Oh God Almighty, please help Cooper find his way home.  I will be praying for him and for you guys.

I know that all of us will be sending up rays and prayers for this little guy and his family!   Is there any way of finding out his approximate age? Would it be possible to find out if the picture is a recent one? (The family loves him so much that I think it probably is, but it might be the only one they had available.) I really pray that if someone finds him they will take him to be scanned. Most shelters do it automatically, especially with a purebred, but I think most vets would do it for free too. It might be a good idea to post the information on some of the "special needs" sites like HandicappedPets.net too. Please keep us updated.

We live in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I have passed this information on to a friend of mine who works closely with the Cinti SPCA and in rescue.  She is going to pass this information on to all her contacts.  God Bless this little guy....I hope and pray he finds his way back home to his family.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts and helping to get the word out...I just cannot imagine how horrible they feel - AND not being there - they live in Minnesota, but have family that is still out looking and checking with the shelters every day.  Just makes me so so sad.  Will keep you posted !  Below is some additional information that Kelli has posted.
:comfort:

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and support. It really means alot to me. I knew that you all would understand the love we have for our little boy and how much this hurts. I've sent some information to Amy (areese) and Yolanda for posting. If anyone hears anything or has any ideas please let me know. I'm posting our contact information just in case....

From the first moment with Cooper, all I could see is a grey cement culvert, tall dead grass that looks like the same color as he is and snow. That's it. No messages, nothing but that image.

With other lost dogs, I had one I was told HAD to be dead, and the message I'd gotten from the dog was "look over your shoulder and I'll be there" and the dog wasn't dead but by a sandy shore behind the home (quite a distance) Another one showed me that it was where the cats go, feral cats, and it turned out to be under a building in the sand.
I just find that my gift isn't geared for a dog that is in a panic state...and my hints and clues just are no help.

Kelli responded:
Andrea - thank you. The area you described is exactly where he was lost. There are areas of the tall, dead grass and cement culverts because they are building more villas there. Part of the problem is exactly what you described - him being the same color as the grass. And there is a light dusting of snow. Amazing... I know he is in a panicked state. My husband and I knew it when he ran from him the one and only time he was spotted by us. We know how he is...Coopie is a nervous dog and I know he's scared. I just ache for him...

Candy posted:
Andrea is the expert on this. However, out of desperation, I ran a special type of Astrology chart. It's a Horary chart, asking "Tell the circumstances around Cooper at the present time". Again, I must say that I don't run this type of chart often, especially regarding animals.
From what I see in the chart Cooper is alive and being well taken care of. Chart indicates that an older woman found him by the steps in her backyard. I have to start teaching in a little while, but I will look at the chart more later to try and glean viable information, such as what direction/location he is at presently. My guess is that I will have to run additional charts. I really hope that everything will turn out for the best.

What to do if a dog goes missingPlease print this and keep it somewhere safe-it's important to follow these steps as soon as a dog goes missing, and everybody (myself included) goes into freakout mode when a dog runs off-good to just have a list sitting there when you need it. Here's hoping we never have to use it again, but I think that's pretty wishful thinking:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tell the RCs first-we'll broadcast the news nationwide to IMPS administration, and alert Petie, who monitors the IMPS hotline, that a call might be coming in about the dogPost flyers immediately-include a picture of the dog, a written description, the word REWARD (no amount, but offer a reward), where the dog was lost and when, contact info (all phone numbers you can think of, including mine and
Paula's and Deedra’s, and the IMPS toll-free number, 1-877-MINPIN-1). I have a flyer template and I can complete it and email/fax whatever it to the foster home so we don't have to duplicate that effort.Call the local police department and find out what happens when a dog is found in the community (Do the police pick it up, or another agency? Where does the dog go from there? What's the phone number of the place the dog would be taken (shelter, animal control holding, vet office etc.)? One missing pin was picked up by the police department, who called the vet that issued his rabies tag to get the contact info. We had a hell of a time tracking down where the dog actually was, and got the "no, we got no minpin here" line several times before we found out that they actually DID HAVE HIM, so be persistent!Call animal control if there is one in the communityCall vet offices within 10 miles of where the dog was lostCall
shelters within 10 miles of where the dog was lostCanvass the neighborhood, especially checking with children, mailmen, UPS drivers etc. You can also ask kids not just if they’ve seen the dog but to help look for him. Children LOVE helping adults out of a jam they've gotten themselves into (for a change), especially if it involves a dog and a reward! If the dog isn't found within 24 hours, we will put a "lost dog" ad in the appropriate newspaper, and contact other rescues to ask them to keep their radar up about any found minpin.Obviously, it's VERY important that the dog be wearing his IMPS tag and all his other tags AT ALL TIMES. A lightweight collar should be on the dog always, with tags attached, and a separate (martingale/slip/greyhound) collar used for walkies, so if the collar attached to the lead slips off he still has his ID info. It might also be a good idea, What to do if a dog goes missing
(continued)now that I actually think of it, for foster homes to have a tag or two made that has your phone numbers on it-this could be slapped on fosters as they come in, so that anybody finding the dog would have the direct contact information. If you pick up or transport a dog with no IMPS tag for some reason, write the tag number that the dog will have on a piece of sturdy tape, with waterproof marker, and wrap it around the collar until you get the real tag. If you don’t have IMPS tags please ask an RC and we will get a few to you.

Also, she sent me this:

We use her to help us find IMPS dogs. She is WONDERFUL. sounds hoaxy but works - kinda a dog psycic

You really need to go to the shelters in person allot of times they really do not know what dogs they have or do not have.Depending on the shelter and how big it is,also in these lean times shelter workers are few and far between over worked & under paid.
Since cooper was in Ohio did he have a extra coat on?I sure hope the reading was right and he is with a sweet little old lady some where safe and warm.

update from Kelli, Cooper's mom...... the search starts today...... Please keep those good thoughts coming that the big hounds find our little lost hound boy.

We've enlisted the help of a gentleman by the name of Jim Berns who has searched for lost pets for other families. He has four coonhounds that have been trained in search/rescue and although he cannot promise he will find Cooper he will do his best to see if his dogs can pick up Coop's scent and see what happens. We've sent a couple of Cooper's coats as a reference, more pictures, google maps of the area (it's amazing how close you can zoom in with that program) and my brother who has continued to search diligently will show him where he was last seen, etc. He will start his search on Saturday. We decided to go this route after another dachsie owner in the area found her little guy last night only a mile and a half away from his home. He had been hiding in bushes and gone 12 days... The hoomom & I had been emailing back and forth so when she said he had been found we knew we had to get another thorough search underway and with us being so far from Ohio this was an option we were willing to try. I know that the chances are not great but my DH and I will exhaust all avenues and if he isn't found we will continue to hope and pray Coopies comes home to us and keep his name and picture out there. We've been getting calls and emails from local vets who we sent letters and flyers to and they said they will keep his poster up and they get people asking all the time if Cooper's been found yet. There are alot of people out there on our side so we're not going to waste a second on the one or two that were attempting to scam or be cruel. Our focus will remain on getting our boy home. Please continue to pray for Cooper and thank you again for all your support.

Kelli's report:

We are still in shock and so unbelieveably happy!! Our boy has been found!! He is safe, unhurt and in remarkeable condition considering what he's been through. Here's what happened:

The 'pet detective' and my brother started their search this morning by posting 22x28 flourescent posters of Cooper that stated there was a $500 reward. They then started searching for Coopie with the coonhounds. They kept picking up his scent and following... During this time we kept getting calls of support from people who were seeing the posters and the hounds. We got a call from a lady who said she saw Coop on Denlinger Road about a week ago (close to my mother's home) and when they turned around in the car to go to get him he had disappeared! The hounds had picked up his scent in the same area! Then a couple of hours later we got a call from this gentleman who said his friends saw the poster and called him to tell him that they thought he had our dog. He described the dachsie to us and said he found him where??? On Denlinger Road about a week ago! We were going crazy by this time. Everything he said about the dog he had was Coopie all the way, right down to a funny toenail he has! We called my brother and the pet detective and they arranged to meet the guy at a vet's office. Well they did, the vet was closed but my brother said he was sure the dog was Cooper. They sent us a picture and we were sure as well. They all decided to go to an Emergency Vet to get him scanned and we got the call 20 minutes later that it was 100% for sure Cooper. The vet said he looked great. Only a small spot on his nose was rubbed raw (probably from the cold). The guy had taken very good care of Cooper and he was sad to see him go but knew he had to do the right thing. He got the reward and my brother has Cooper in his care now. Cooper had been out in the winter weather for over two weeks before being rescued by this wonderful man. We are forever in his debt... The picture is Cooper at my brother's house. He's a little scared but otherwise okay. Dana will be leaving about 4am to meet my brother and get Cooper. Somewhere in Illinois I believe. This has been such a roller coaster ride and it's worked out - our baby boy is coming home!! I've been crying for the last three hours, this is such a miracle! Thank you all so much and I'll keep posting with updates. Thank you for everything!!!

What wonderful news!! I read the first few lines, then had to stop to give my husband the whole back story so I could read the rest of it to him. Cooper is going to be happy (and very spoiled) little boy when he gets home!
