Hi all......It's been an interesting weekend/day at the household in Greenacres!  It started on Friday night......a little brown/red/black doxie was running on the main road......scary!  A car almost hit him......we tried to get him but he was so scared that he ran off and hid on us.  So, now I'm a worried mess because Friday night it was cold out....and in the dark you could not see the little guy.  I'm back out on Saturday morning, early, looking for him....can't find him....he had a pretty good hiding spot.   So, up until yesterday, I didn't know the fate of this little guy who had no collar on, no identification.  I just prayed that he was safe and warm somewhere.  Yesterday, I'm heading out to do some shopping....as I approach the stop sign on the main road, there is a sign......FOUND Dachshund, etc., please call if yours.   Well, we had to know the fate of this little guy.....we figure based on his circumstances that he was "dropped".  A young lady who just lives down the road from us....actually, we talked to her dad on Friday night not realizing that it was her house.......and she posted signs and notices but no luck.  She and her dad saw him on Saturday and they captured him in the yard of a vacant house which has been vacant for a long time.  They took him into their home, they took him to the shelter to see if he was microchipped....he was not and she could not leave him there so home he went with her.  We called last night just to check on him and she said that he was doing fine.  But, she said that she wouldn't be able to keep him.  Her parents already have two big dogs and she and her husband were going to Alaska (he is in the Army).   We told her that we with their help would continue the search for his owners but if they are not found, then we would provide him with a permanent home. They named him Earl......he is not neutered yet, looks to be a young boy (I'm guessing a year maybe), and has an injured paw that  he is favoring.  He puts weight on it but when he runs, he is holding it up.  Kiley brought him to the house this morning.......our household of two is now three doxies.  I have a vet appointment for him this evening to get him checked out.

Sarge and Duggie weren't too sure about him but they are doing okay now.  Sarge had to show him that he is the KING and that Duggie and Earl are his servants!   Never thought I'd have three at one time.  God works in mysterious ways.

So may I now introduce Earl......

Wow.  We're speechless.   When the dogapult has you in its sights, there's no escaping.   Bless you for taking him in.   Whomever dumped him didn't deserve him anyway.  May he have a long and healthy life in his new forever home.

Earl's coloring is really unique.   I've never seen a b/t with his color pattern.

Zeke has a similar issue with one of his paws when he runs.   He will skip his right hind leg in his cadence, but there is no injury.  Rusty-angel did the same thing.   It may have been learned behavior from a previous injury, or it could just be a neurological tick.   It typically happens when they are transitioning from the "left right" trot cadence to the "front back" running cadence.

You are so right David....when the dogapult hits, it hits.  Earl has one tiny white patch on his chest.....about the size of a quarter....that is the only other color in addition to his coloring.   And, I agree that whoever dumped him doesn't deserve him......there is no identification and no microchip according to the shelter.  I'm having our vet doublecheck tonight.   Kiley, the gal who took him in initially became attached to him in the four days that he was with her.  I told her that we would keep her updated on him as far as his vet visit etc., and that we would also send her emails on his progress.

Wow, he's a charmer.  I don't know why anyone would want to let him go.  Welcome to the Board, Earl.  Gee, maybe he's from a royal family and you'll have to add in Duke and Lady and Queeny...
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Dee, he is so handsome.  I love his coloring.  I think he deserves to stay right there in your home.  He looks so comfy in that chair.  Bless you for taking him into your home.

Earl is LOVELY.  I really like his head.  And, he's a wild boar smooth  :thumb:  The widows peak is a dead giveaway.

Such a lovely guy, sounds like he's from not so loving home like yours so please keep him!! Congratulations!

Looking at the pics a little more closely, it looks like he has a smattering of white hairs in his face, which would probably make him a bit older...maybe in the 4 to 6 year old range.  Sometimes, though, dachshies will grow back white hairs after a scrape or injury, which given the fact that this dog was likely dumped is certainly a possibility.

For example, Zeke has white hairs literally between his eyes from a tangle when he was a 7 month old puppy where Rudy-angel got the best of him.  Zeke eventually turned the tables on Rudy on the next visit as he was bigger and stronger than Rudy.   Rudy had to do some real soul searching after that.

I love him already!!!  He looks like he has a great personality.  He sure is handsome!!!  I can't believe someone would abandon him.

Oh,my, wow!  That is the most amazing pattern I have seen on a b&t!  He sure is gorgeous!  How sad that he was dropped/escaped/got lost, but the dogapult knew for sure he would land in a great therapy place, if not his furever home!  Welcome, Earl!  Hmmm :thinik: if he stays with you, he's gonna need a name more befitting Sarge and Duggie!  :thumb:

Oh, my...what a story with a happy ending!  Frankly, I hope no one claims him.  Welcome Earl!

  WOW!  What a handsome little guy!  His face is full of expression and his coloring is GORGEOUS!  I can't believe that someone would just dump this sweet guy.  By the pictures, it looks like he already knows that he's landed in the butter.  Welcome Earl!

I would love to know how you introduced him to the boys.  Since I participate in events for Foxy Doxy Dachshund Rescue, you can imagine how tempted I am at time to bring home another one.  One BIG thing that stops me....besides the fact that Mark would kick me to the curb (LOL)...is Miss Bonnie.  She is so extremely alpha and can be rather a bit of a fart with bad manners.

Thanks for sharing your good news!

Earl went to see the dr tonight.......a very good patient.  The dr estimates that he is about 3 years old based on his teeth.  He said his teeth were in good shape and he was surprised that if someone took care of his teeth that they didn't have him neutered.  I said that if we are his forever home that in a few months, he will be neutered.  In regard to his leg/paw....when the dr felt his foot and leg, there was no tenseness however when he moved the leg up at the shoulder point, he tensed up.  Never cried or yelped, just tensed up so he watched him walk and saw how if he runs, he will run on three legs holding his front leg up.  However, he will walk on it and put weight on it.  The dr said he felt no fractures in his movement so the next step, if I wanted was to have an xray done to see if that showed anything.  We did the xray.....his shoulder shows a bit of a separation and he said that could be from an old injury or it could be genetic.  That if we want to know for sure which, we would need to consult with an orthopedic specialist.  In the meantime, he gave me some anti-inflamatory meds to be dispensed twice a day for fourteen days.  He also said that due to his turmoil life the past several days, that due to stress and what he had been through, he could have also strained his nerves in the shoulder.  I said that we need to give him some time to adjust and settle down before I'll put him through anything additional.  He really needs some stabilizing in his little life right now.  The dr fully agreed with me.  So far everyone has fallen for him and I do have to admit, he is a real charmer and lover!  He loves to cuddle.

The three boys are adjusting -- Sarge is not use to nor likes too much the puppy play.  He had snarled at Earl to let him know who is boss and Earl acknowledges that Sarge is in charge.  I am making sure that Sarge and Duggie get all the attention in equal doses to ensure there is no jealously.    I'm hoping that as the days past, the three will get along fabuolously.  I know that springing a new dog on them so quickly is hard on them also as it is on Earl.  We gladly accept any positive rays to help us through the transition.

Hi Sandi.....Normally we would introduce the boys in a neutral place.  That did not happen in this case.  Earl came to the house this morning and Sarge and Duggie were introduced in our living room.  At first Sarge and Duggie barked at Earl, show lips a bit, but within a few minutes tails were wagging.  They all wanted to sniff each other and Sarge took ombrage (sp) to that.....he wanted to sniff Earl but didn't want Earl to sniff him!   He snarled, growled and showed his teeth but was called on that and told to be nice.  He will still snarl at him if Earl tries to play with him.....Sarge is the old man and not to welcome to puppy play.  Sarge is definitely the alpha of the three dogs and Earl is learning that.  And, we are alpha to Sarge.  I know with LooieAngel and Duggie it took Sarge and the two about three days to be totally okay with each other.  Either Dave or I will be with them during this transition.  And, if we both need to go, they will be separated.  Sarge who is generally pretty mellow can also be a bit of  a fart as can Duggie.  Miss Bonnie is not alone!

What thrilling news!  When we started reading we were hoping for a happy end and got it.  He´s absolutely gorgeous and looks like he´ll have no problems settling in to his new life in the luxury he deserves with you all.  We look forward to updates on his leg etc. and loads and loads more piccies of all three guys together. Earl looks such a sweetie.  We hope no previous owners show up because they don´t deserve him.

Congratulations, what a wonderful early Christmas present for Sargie, Duggie and Earl. I'm sure they boys will get along fine once the pecking order is established.

Marcia from MI

Congratulations, I know things will work out.  Once the boys are able to discuss things and Sarge and Duggie hear Earl's story I'm sure they will warm up to him.

Leslie

Congratulations to all, especially to Earl!!! I just know that he's found his forever home, and he is blessed! I have no doubt that he and Sarge and Duggie will be best buddies in no time. It makes me cry to think of how terrified Earl must have been for whatever time he was left to fend for himself, but thank God for the angels who have stepped in to give him the life he deserves! God bless you all!!   :thumb:   :hello2:

Hi Earl:Dis is Arnie,Blusky,Cinni&Fritz and our Momma Kelly in Illinois! We think you are one haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaandsome little boy!
Dee: I am so glad you took him in. If you end up keeping Earl after he's been there a while Sarge,Duggie and Earl will become buddies. When we adopted Arnie this past March we weren't to sure how Fritz would accept him.Well after a couple of weeks they've become the best of buddies.Fritz at times will be sleeping in one of the doggie beds minds and Arnie will go over and start to aggrivate him just like a little kid and at times its the other way around where Fritz will bother Arnie when he's sleeping.

I just emailed you Dee but Earl is STUNNING. One of the most beautiful doxies I've ever seen he sounds like a sweet boy too. He looks well cared for doesn't he, was he ravenous they first fed him do you know? I really hope his owners don't show up. They don't deserve him. What a story this is! I think he is a wild boar recessive, our Sam was and was a similar grizzly color but all over, very pretty. Earl has more distinct markings than Sam did. This is the only photo I have handy of Sam (mighty mole hunter) hopefully you can see. So happy for you and for Earl I am sure all 3 boys will be inseperable in no time, Sarge and Duggie have a lot of manuevers to teach!  :thumb:

edit: I found another shot of Sam...OK I was 12 at the time and the polar opposite of what I am now, which is why I had him on a horse!  But hopefully you can see the wild boar coloring. I think Earl is just gorgeous!
