When I am off from work 3 times a week I take my boys over to my mother so they can hang out with her pack and enjoy her yard. For the last week whenever we are over there and outside, my old man Otto like to dig and eat the dirt in a certain area. At first I thought one of my moms dogs had buried something but, after looking, the dirt is packed tight. Otto will dig a little bit and shove his snout down and starting eating the dirt. I stop him when I catch im but the other night he scared me because after cathing him in the act we went inside where he proceeded to start coughing and shaking then hacked up some spit with dirt. Anyone got any ideas? He missing something in his diet?

Our boys are all avid grass munchers.  They also like to chew on sticks in the yard.  Oscar eats these little round things that are crunchy and fall out of our trees.  Both dachshunds will use their months to help them with major lawn digging projects, and they will come up with dirt in their mouths.  No matter what I do, I can't seem to stop these things.    On the bright side, at least they enjoy our backyard. :nana:

Well I knew humans had pica but dogs? How weird, I did look it up and he is on a on a good diet of holistic food from Innova so I don't think that's it. Looking at Vitamin supplements or increasing the amount of food he's getting. After I got rid of his tape worm (yuck) he started gaining some weight so I cut back on some of his food as he was getting a little heavy. Maybe he is protesting, I took him to the dog park with my moms pack and he spent the whole time digging up dirt, pulling roots with his teeth. :2funny:

Several of the Anipals enjoy a dirt snack, I wonder what is missing from their Wellness dog food that makes them want sandy clay :idiot:

We see Max eat cat poop one time before he starts his digging business. We end up digging treats and toys in one place to 1st keep him away from where the neighbor cat poop and also 2nd so he will not totally destroy mom's garden.
