Ozzy has separation anxiety.  When we kept him in the laundry room when we went to work, he nearly chewed through the molding around the door in an attempt to get to us.  So, we have been crating him since then, and it has worked well.  Still he will whine and bark until we leave, and when I pull up in the driveway, I can hear him barking.  When I come into the house, he is nearly frantic, wanting to be let out.

I bought a bottle of Ultra-Calm biscuits from Drs. Foster & Smith, and gave him one yesterday.  Hubby was not feeling well, and went back to bed.  He said Ozzy still fussed a bit.

I realize it could be that Ozzy knew Hubby was home and was whining because he could not understand why he was in the crate while someone was home.

My question:  Does it take a while for this to start working?
Luke Skywalker:  "I, I don't believe it!"  Yoda:  "That is why you fail."

I really don't know for sure, but I would think they would work right away.    :dontknow:  I think that Ozzy was probably just upset that your hubby was home and not cuddling him.   I'm sorry I can't be of much help.

Porky has really bad anxiety too, so we pay one of our neighbors to come check on him when we are gone.   She always reports that Porky cries till he hears our car start and leave, then he settles down and is quiet until he hears our car pull up.   We don't have her come in the house or anything, we just have her walk up to the door and listen.   Most of the time, she can hear Porky in her apartment below us, so its not necessary for her to even go outside and walk up the stairs. The one time Porky did continue crying and whining was right before we had a MAJOR storm.   Is there anyone that could come over and check on Ozzy for you???     That might help you feel better.   Having our neighbor check has helped me feel a lot better about leaving Porky.

We get this stuff called rescue remedy to help calm them. Two of our boys are terrified of thunderstorms and it helps. You can find it at any GNC stores.

The only thing that calmed Fin down in the begining was putting a blanket over the crate to make it dark. It even worked when we were there.

I know how you feel though, Finnegan is the same way when we leave.. So i would love to hear the results of these treats after a while if they do work out.

The blanket thing works great for Porky too.
