and it is dachsie-related, since I will be helping out a fellow elementary teacher with two teenagers, a baby on the way, and a small apartment with no chance of upsizing any time soon.  She and hubby have two dachsies and a bichon frise, and they want to do what's best for the dogs.  The dachsies actually are her teen-aged son's and daughter's, but their apartment only allows one dog.  However with baby on the way, and the teenagers only with them for a week at a time, they have decided the dogs need a bigger yard and more attention - so those 8 feet belong to Lady and Buster, red mini smooths.  They will be joining us soon, and we will meet at the dog park next week - not sure if they are coming home with us then, or in a few days after the teenagers say their farewells.  They have asked about visitation, so of course, that is fine.  Nataly doesn't think they'll visit more than once - just to assure themselves that their pets are happy and safe.  Lady is spayed, but Buster needs to be neutered.  Luckily, one of the Lowe's guys who delivered my new shower floor, bathtub, and two toilets, wants to buy my green 5-speed bicycle - only ridden twice.  That has been earmarked for Buster's big-boy surgery.   We are so excited!    :apls:

(If you didn't get my pun, those 8 feet are dachsie feet... 2 dogs x 4 feet each...)

But thats very sweet of you! I am sure they will rest easier knowing their fur babies are happy.

Yes, and as far as I can see, the only downside is to have four middle-aged dachsies, so to speak.  Always before, when I had multiple dachsies, I had 3 to 5 years between ages, and now all of them will be in the middle years.  I will have to double check on Lady's and Buster's ages.

Julia, that is so wonderful that you are enlarging your house by 8 feet!  When I saw your subject line, I thought, wow, Julia enlarging her house and then read your post!  Lady and Buster are very lucky puppers to be joining Brekke, Robinton and you!  More doxie stories!!! Dee

Now you will have your very own four pack of wieners, like me!!!!  Max sends Brekke smoochies!

We also have 4, although only 2 are dachshunds.  4 is actually a great number.  No one ever gets lonely at our house, and 4 is really not that much more work than 2 or 3.  Good luck!

Julia, I do believe that you will qualify as "Herd" status when the additional two are official.  We'll have to check with Dr. Johnny Cochran Leaky about the actual requiements to acheive herd status.  Good luck with the new additions.  Do let us know how the transition goes.

We have almost achieved kennel status.  In Ohio, 5 dogs qualifies you for the kennel license instead of individual dog licenses every year.  We are trying to avoid kennel status, just for our own peace of mind.  But, you never know what might come up....  Don't tell my husband!

AHEM . . .

I just commented on the whole "Spartan" attire on the "We're Back!" topic, and am spending the 4th of July weekend at my retreat in the woods, so let me check on HERD qualifications and I'll get back to you.

However, I can say I'm not too fond of the financial aspects - selling two wheels to gain four feet and relinquish two balls - somebody's got sum splainin' to do!

ATTN: Dr. Juan Cochran Leaky!
We think it is a good deal, because two of those bicycle wheels are flat - and have been since ride number two on that bike about 9 1/2 years ago.  That bike has only been sitting in the garage getting dusty, and since I am in a clean-up, clean out, get rid of mood, getting money for the bike I would have donated to Goodwill, and having Master Buster - soon to be renamed in fitting with my sci fi book characters' names, seems like a very "green" thing to do.   :2funny:

Seriously - we look forward to the description of "herd status".  If it's four, I've been there before when I had Gretl, Siglen, Brekke, and Sorcha, so I look forward to achieving that again!

I can't wait to find out what the new names will be. I knew Lady and Buster be their names for long. Brekke is really going to wonder what ever happened to the quiet life she lived for a short while. Can't wait to see pictures of the herd.

Oh, Julia - this is fantastic news!  Congratulations on your new additions to the family!

8 feet, indeed.  Heh.

Brekkesmom

Hi, all!  Well, we met at the dog park yesterday and spent an hour letting everyone get acquainted.  Lady is more reserved, like Brekke, but she came over for some pats, scritches, and general attention.  She is 8 years old, as is Brekke.  Buster is 9 and has war wounds from the large dog who jumped him as a puppy - and Buster fought back.  I believe Nataly said it was $3500 in stitching after surgery and some head repairs!  Buster also came over for some pats and scritches after a few minutes.  They are both very light red, and Buster has white on his chest.  Brekke seemed to like both, Lady seemed to like both of mine, Robbie liked Lady, and Buster and Robbie had a few loud conversations, because Robbie is convinced he is my alphadog, and Buster is convinced he is the alpha - if you know what I mean!  Robbie did not care for Buster getting in his personal space, although they did make nice after awhile. I am glad yesterday was just a meet and greet - I think it will be easier for the teen owners to have met me, Brekke and Robbie, and to have seen how the four dachsies interacted.

It's good to hear that the meet and greet went as well as it did.  Hope the transition goes smoothly when it does occurr.  Do keep us posted.  Have you heard from Dr. Leaky about your "Herd" status?  I was just wondering it you met the requirements.  :thinik:
