This morning when we got up, Maddie was telling us she didn't feel good.  She was quivering and shaking, moaning and being WAY pitiful.  She would yelp when we picked her up and refused to attempt the back steps, something she manuevers everyday.  I settled her in her bed and went to work.  Came home at lunch and she didn't move from her bed.  Great!  We go on vacation on Wednesday EEEEARLY and here I have a sick dog.  I worried about her back but she seemed to be walking okay.  Well, I dialed up the vet and they said to bring her over.  We took her in and almost immediately she started moving better.  We left her there to be examined and went back to work.  Vet called about an hour later and said absolutely NOTHING is wrong with her!  WHEW!!!!  We have her home now and she is still claiming Princess status by having us move her up the steps and place her on the couch, but I can live with that.  Could it be she KNOWS we are leaving and is being manipulative in trying to get us to stay home?  I can't think of any other reason for this boo hoo behavior.  I've let Tati her pet sitter know about this and if she needs the vet again, Tati will take her.

Has any of YOUR hounds done something similar to this when YOU'VE gotten the suitcases out?

Kari

Penny hasn't done this in relation to suitcases, but two weeks ago we picked her up from my mom's and she was limping really bad. My mom didn't really see anything happen to her, but she could barely walk on it. So we took her to the vet at 9 pm that night  :ambulance: in case it was fractured. We waited for 1 1/2 hours and by the time we saw the vet she wasn't limping at all.  :doah: Well, we got her home and she started limping again. After the next day she was perfectly fine. I think the vet had a good laugh at us when we left.  :2funny: I think he tought we were crazy  :idiot:

The dogs not so much, but the cats have pulled that a couple times.  Cleo kitty hurt her paw once and had to go to the vet.  Well, she kept holding it up and looking pitiful, and of course mom would say poor kitty.  Well, six months later Cleo kitty was all better and up to no good so I gave her a firm NO.  Smart  kitty she was Miss Cleo raised her paw and looked pitiful, BUT it was the wrong paw.  Can you say busted.

I think they know.  Definatly leave the vets number with their Auntie - you never know - something really may be wrong.  I have commented to my vet before when we have gone and all of a sudden what we were there for wasn't happening.  He said that their adrenaline gets going and they do, for a time, forget that they hurt.  There may be something there - but auntie T should be able to take care of it.  Have a good vacation !

Maddie!  Are you playing sick so mommy and daddy won't leave you?  They deserve a vacation and I bet you will have the sitter wrapped around your little paw.

Max once slid off the end of the bed with the comforter and kind of rolled on his shoulder.  I rushed over to him and he was acting like he couldn't put any weight on it.  I was about to scoop him up to take him to the vet and I decided to check if it was real or some body wanting attention.  I picked up one of his toys and threw it and he went running after it.  He got it picked it up, then turned around and looked at me like "uh-oh, I messed up".  I was relieved he wasn't really hurt.

I don't know, I still think something is ailing my li'l one.  She seems very depressed and will squawk if you touch her where she doesn't want to be touched (neck, shoulder, hips).  I have full confidence in our sitter that if Maddie really needs the doc, that she'll take her in.  I hope it's just some stiffness.  She's 8 years old.

We're off to Ohio tomorrow bright and early (4:30).  See ya all when we return.

Ahhh Sandy, it's bad enough in itself but just before vacation!!??! I hope you wont be a worried mess while you are gone. I honestly don't think they fake these things, not to this extent anyway. I think what happens is when they get to the vet, they are nervous and become more stoic so often they aren't exhibiting the same signs they do at home where they are more comfortable. When Jessie had her herniated disc, the vet pushed and pulled and prodded her back all over and she never showed any sign of pain while there. I would suspect her back first thing and treat it as such to be safe. Let us know how she does and I hope you have a wonderful trip!!!

Not exactly, but Skeeter did pine for Kevin the first time he went away on business.  She just lay in her little dog bed staring off into space.  She had no visible reaction when I would call her, and I had to pick her up and carry her outside for poop patrol.  Why the only time she got out of bed was to eat, and she gobbled her meals with her usual greed and then return to bed to pine.
